A few months back I decided I wanted a nice steak but never got around to it. Yesterday, Kristin came home with a $100 gift certificate to the Golden Steer Steakhouse which is the oldest established steakhouse in Vegas. It was once frequented by Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and probably the rest of the Rat Pack. It’s about a block off the strip on Sahara right by the world’s largest gift shop which I’m sure was not there when the Rat Pack went. Anyway, we went tonight. It was quite pricey and the gift certificate certainly did not cover the whole meal, but it was very good. I got a nice 16oz New York Strip and it only cost $40. Quite a bargain. Thrown together with $7 baby carrots and $6 mashed potatoes and I had a nice meal. That was after I started with a $9 caesar salad. And the place was packed. Who in their right mind spends $7 for baby carrots. I coulda bought a year’s worth of carrots for $7. Kristin got the filet with potatoes and the salad. 2 iced teas, tax and tip and it all came to just about $150. For dinner. I don’t know how people can spend that much for a meal. It’s just absurd. That much money could probably feed a… well it could feed a lot more than 2 people 1 meal. I liked the steak though. It really hit the spot. And we sat in Sammy Davis Jr.’s booth. Eating steak where Sammy Davis Jr. used to eat steak made it all that much cooler.
