Another poor Eagles NFC Championship clip show

Well it’s been a hell of a few weeks. 7 weeks ago the season was over. Just 3 weeks ago all I wanted for a successful season was to keep the Cowboys out of the playoffs. Just a week ago all I wanted to do was keep the Giants from repeating. Then with a Cardinals win, it all changed. In an instant it all went from a “well at least we’re here” mentality to a “hey, we can and we will do this” mentality. Well to quote Seth Rogan like I so often do, “I made a mistake!”.

Heart breaker. That’s all this was. It describes both this NFC Championship game and this entire season. It went from the worst game I had ever watched to the best game I had ever watched to a MF’ing heart breaker just as this season went from the worst season to the best season to an MF’ing heart breaker.

If we were playing the Panthers this week I don’t think this whole situation would have gotten out of hand. We could have lost that game and just moved on. We shouldn’t have been here anyway. But the damn Cardinals with their phony Phoenix sports fans… and don’t say they sold out in 6 minutes, they’re not phony… I’ve been there. They’re phony.

Regardless. Things to take from this game. First off, how the F did we not double cover Fitzgerald after the way he decimated the Cardinals last week and then scored 2 quick touchdowns? He marched down the field seemingly at will during the first half and that was the difference. The Cards were winning and still became one dimensional just throwing the ball to Fitz. I don’t blame them. So the game was over at the half. I came to that realization and that was that. We just never showed up. But then we did. We showed up big and like I’ve never seen before. The defense made the stands that they needed just like they did over the last 6 weeks, the offense started clicking… DeSean’s concentration catch was ridiculous and Donovan just really started putting the team on his back. But then Fitz came back, the D had no answers and Kurt Warner looked like the Superbowl winning quarterback that he is and the Eagles looked like the NFC Championship losing team that we just always seem to be. We got one major call at Arizona’s expense but that doesn’t make up for the countless calls the Cardinals got the entire game. That’s kind of sickening. They could hold all they wanted, make contact after 5 all they wanted, pass interfere all they wanted… and we couldn’t. That made a difference. Home field advantage made a difference. Apparently it made a 21 point difference than our last meeting.

I’m trying to fit this latest NFC Championship game into the grand scheme of NFC Championship losses. All I know is it’s worse than the Rams loss which was probably more expected than this one. Regardless, I need to view this season as a good one considering where we were 6 weeks ago. We flat out kept both the Cowboys and the Giants from winning it all and we probably got Donovan and Dawkins back for at least one more season. DeSean will continue to grow as a receiver and should be something special next year. A lot of positives to look at. I don’t know what it all means right now but I’m hoping to figure it out over the next 8 months. We got about a month shorter off season than I could have expected. That’s something right? Show us out Frankie.

That’s life
I tell ya, I can’t deny it,
I thought of quitting baby,
But my heart just ain’t gonna buy it.
And if I didn’t think it was worth one single try,
I’d jump right on a big bird and then I’d fly.
