Last Wednesday I got to see Harry Kalas throw out the first pitch at the Phillies ring ceremony game. It was a great day. The Phils got their hardware, the sun was shining, Harry threw out the first pitch and 7 innings later the Phils miraculously came from behind to win in World Champion fashion. Today, unfortunately, the sun isn’t shining so brightly… Our beloved announcer Harry Kalas passed away this morning at the age of 73.
Harry was about to do what he did best. He arrived at Nationals Park ready to call another game. He would have called another Phillies victory… A victory I believe he eventually willed them to.
Luckily for me I got to hear him call a few more games last week while I was back in Philly. I don’t know what that next baseball game will sound like and I’m not particularly looking forward to it. However I know we’ll always have that voice in the back of our heads each and every time we see another Phillies home run… “Swing…and a long drive, watch this baby, outta here! Home run Ryan Howard”.
Harry will be greatly missed.
