NFL Suicide Pool – Week 6

Sports / Sunday, October 18th, 2009

I just opened up my fortune cookie from dinner and it says “Your business will assume vast proportions.” What does that even mean? I’m not exactly positive but it must mean something like the Raiders just beat the Eagles there goes my $12,500, I’m so glad I didn’t take out that loan and already spend the money… and I’m spent. As unbelievable as it sounds, it’s all completely believable and if it wasn’t for this suicide pool, the Eagles completely deserved to lose that game. They played like shit up and down the field. The defense only let up 13 points but they should have never let up 13 points against that completely inept Raiders offense. I don’t care if it was really one big play, they couldn’t tackle the whole day and never made the big play when needed. And this Trotter signing was completely exposed. It was a horrible, horrible idea. They needed someone who could cover a receiver and they go out and get a guy who couldn’t cover the worst of receivers even in his prime? And speaking of Trotter who can’t even tackle anymore, I’ll say it again, no one could make a tackle today. Then the offensive line was just pathetic. Peters wasn’t even playing great before he went down, Dunlap isn’t king of anything and I taste vomit just thinking about it. The Raiders defense is decent but Donovan should never have been sacked 6 times and hurried/hit like 95% of the downs. However, as much as I love Donovan this situation shows exactly why he was never able to become an elite QB. Top 10, top 5 at times in his career, but never elite because he cannot keep his head. It didn’t cost us but he didn’t know we didn’t have any timeouts at the end of the first half? And I swear he lost track of downs on a very important drive in the 4th quarter which did cost us and forced a punt. Again, can’t fully blame him though; Andy really earned his new upcoming 10 year contract by once again completely abandoning the run the whole game when we were only ever down by a TD. Then there were the stupid penalties thrown in and finally the thing that literally cost us the game… 2 missed field goals from David Akers. When you’re in a game of field goals, you can’t miss 2 of them. This game reeked of last year’s Bengals tie the whole time. The Raiders showed up and played like they did in week 1 when they were beating up the Chargers the whole game except this time they didn’t have to take the loss. They deserved this win if only for the fact that the Eagles sure as hell didn’t. After this, they don’t even deserve to fly back to Philly. If anything, I hope they’re all stuck in coach next to the fat, smelly woman I was stuck next to on my flight yesterday. New suicide pool rule for next year if I decide to play again… don’t take the Eagles… period!

Now that I’m done bashing the Eagles, honestly, where were the flags on the Raiders… any of them? They could do no wrong apparently. The offsides, the interferences, the blatant late hits? Never called. Why does Tom Brady get his knee grazed and get a roughing the passer call yet DeSean gets injured on a late hit out of bounds today and no flag is thrown and going back to week 1 Donovan gets a late hit in the end zone which breaks his ribs and a flag was never thrown there? Where’s the non-Eagles consistency? Regardless, bye, bye suicide pool, it was fun while it lasted and I’m quite certain we wouldn’t have lost another game the rest of the way out. Guess it’s why they play the games. So long money. I would have loved you unconditionally and gave you a great home.
