Coheed and Cambria at the Joint

Music / Sunday, August 15th, 2010

Rarely do I get to go to a concert in Vegas. The majority of the time the “Vegas” tax makes prices just too unrealistic to be able to go see a show. Instead you’re stuck only getting to see the bands at Bite of Las Vegas once a year and hoping you get a decent one. We’ve been lucky the last few years but it still sucks living here if you want to see your favorite bands when they come to town. This year though I was lucky enough to be able to see the Arctic Monkeys in April and now got to see another good, affordable show in the SAME YEAR. This Friday the 13th lineup was superb. Coheed and Cambria was awesome, the Porcupine Tree was real good, the Dear Hunter was alright and the Joint sound guy was an utter disgrace. But let’s not dwell on that last one because Coheed was awesome. They started off the show with In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 which got the crowd going and then kept up the pace pretty good. The encore was awesome, making Matt’s night with a little acoustic Wake Up, throwing in the best Black Rainbow song, World of Lines and then finishing up with Welcome Home. Here’s the full Coheed setlist.

Not only was Coheed awesome at the show but they played a free live set at Zia records a few hours before the show and even signed autographs for fans. I got myself a signed copy of Black Rainbow which is pretty damn cool. I’d love to see Coheed again at a different venue with a different sound guy but it definitely gives me something to look forward to. It was a great night. It’s just a shame stuff like that can’t happen more often.
