Yesterday I went to see Rise of the Silver Surfer which was one of the two movies I was really waiting for this year. Growing up, it was Spiderman and then Fantastic Four as my two favorite comics. For some reason I was wasn’t really as excited to see Spiderman as I was to see F4, probably because as I said in the last post, 3 movies might just be too much in most cases.
Anyway, this Fantastic Four was as expected. It had tons of cheesy moments, I feel it lost track a little too much with the wedding and celebrity stuff however it was carried by the fact that the Fantastic Four and the Silver Surfer are just too awesome. I only wish they involved Galactus a bit more; it couldn’t have been that hard to actually show him and then make the end “fight” a little more involved with all the special effects resources we have today.
Other than that, it was a fun hour and a half. It makes me think though that perhaps the superhero movies have run their course and maybe cartoons (I want this) really are just the best way to put comics on display. I mean I have no beef with looking at Jessica Alba for 2 hours, actually I’m all for it, actually, it’s a great idea. Lets have some more Fantastic Four movies. I want a 2.5 hour Inhumans and Skrull movie. The script’s pretty much freakin written already. So let’s do it. Do it!
