Last week was almost hell. Started on Thanksgiving with Ryan Grant against the Lions. Thought I’d get a monster day. He did shit. 13.65 points? That’s what you end up always doing against great defenses. I expected way more against the Lions. It’s cool though because like I said, that’s what I expect from Grant anyway. I still have my whole team to go.
So I get up a little bit earlier on Sunday, despite the Eagles being on TV, because I was planning on starting Jason Snelling all week in place of Michael Turner but then it sounded like Turner was going to start the few days prior. Well he did. Way to go Falcons. You fully deserve him being hurt more severely this week. Anyway, I had to find a replacement quick. Sure I could have gone with Tim Hightower or Beanie Wells but where’s the fun in that? I saw the Bengals were holding out the very healthy Cedric Benson just because they were playing the Browns and I just couldn’t pass up the Browns match-up so I picked up Bernard Scott who was hot the week before filling in for Benson. Looked like a great move. So about an hour later I’m paying attention to the 5 people I had starting in the morning games and I’m getting no points. Turns out my guys had been dropping like flies. Matt Ryan pretty much got hurt stepping onto the field and his day was done with .5 points. Fantastic. 1 QB down. Then my hot start of the week, Bernard Scott, who had been running pretty well in the game, goes down with turf toe. Day done with 12.3 points. He coulda been in the 20s. AND THEN DeSean goes down with a concussion. Thank heavens he had already found the end zone but he finished with 2 catches, 41 yards and a TD. He probably should have had 2 TDs but we won’t go there.
Regardless, I had a bunch of key positions started in those morning games and only Reggie Wayne was playing in the 2nd half. And he still had a very non Reggie Wayne day. Found the end zone but only had 3 catches for 19 yards. Ugh. David Akers was pretty much my best and most consistent player of the morning with his whole 12 points. Glad I have that huge lead now aren’t I? I really only have Chris Johnson and Drew Brees left and the 2nd place team has like 75 points on me.
But then we all know how that went. Chris Johnson did what he does best yet again and gets me 27.88 points. That included outscoring everyone on my team with a single 80 yard TD run. But wait, there’s more. Drew Brees won player of the week for a reason. Almost 400 yards and 5TDs. 38 points. Just what the doctor ordered on Monday night.
Despite how we got there, in the end it was another very good week. I only lost about 12 points of my huge lead. However, this week coming up may be my toughest test with an injury depleted lineup and poor defensive match-ups scattered all over the place. The huge lead will surely be tested this week. 5 weeks to go. Bend but don’t break is what they say. I just gotta avoid running a prevent defense.
