Went to watch the Tyson fight on Saturday because they were showing it free at Santa Fe Station. It was one of the most disappointing things I’ve seen in a long time. So rather than talk about that, I’ll post a picture of the way I’m going to remember Iron Mike. Knocking out Michael Spinks in like 91 seconds. Sure I can’t forget the jail and the ear biting, or how Lennox Lewis is the cheapest champion ever and these other last few defeats, but they’re nothing compared to the man who’s almost impossible to beat in Mike Tyson’s Punch Out and who once seemed almost as impossible to beat in real life. I’ll remember the youngest heavyweight champion of all time and sickest, badest man on Earth. I don’t care if some big dopey Irishman beat him on Saturday; there probably still isn’t another man I’d want to have my back if he was pissed off. I definitely wish Mike all the best. The greatness of boxing has certainly paralleled Mike’s own downfall, and it’s just hard to imagine boxing without him.
