Some of you may already know, but for those of you who don’t, I saw Barry Manilow tonight. It’s interesting how it’s come to this. It started on May 12th, 2004, I know this because I can use google, when I saw Barry on the Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn. Prior to this, I don’t think I knew anything other than Mandy and “some cabana song”. But something about that show made me take notice. He was good. Then I never listened to Barry again. But then a bunch of months ago when I saw Barry had his new Music and Passion Hilton show here in Vegas, I said “Hey, that probably wouldn’t be half bad.” So I talked to Kristin and next thing I knew I had Barry Manilow tickets. It was at that time when I decided to listen to some Barry Manilow because, well you know, I didn’t know much. So I went and got his greatest hits CD. Then I realized that Barry Manilow’s greatest hits are awesome. Yes, that’s just about how to describe them. So the show tonight was obviously Barry doing his greatest hits, but it wasn’t just in concert form. This was Vegas. This was better than any normal concert. This was a show filled with great music. At first I was skeptical. Even though I was warned prior to the show, the sheer magnitude of old peopleness was almost too much to overcome. Before the show started, they were playing tons of crappy disco stuff and when YMCA came on, I was straight about to leave. But after the first few notes from Barry, I was definitely in a good place. Now this whole blog post may all sound strange to you all, but yes, I am definitely secure enough with myself to say that “I enjoy Manilow”. It was just funny when I realized that I was probably the first person at a Manilow show ever to sing along while sportin blue Tims. Yeah, I definitely didn’t see too many thugs walking around after the show tonight. But damn, Manilow was awesome.
