I got 298 emails over the weekend and I thought I did pretty good at keeping spam at bay. Apparently not. Speaking of the weekend, it was definitely a good one. Much better than the same old stuff I’m used to. I had a couple of visitors to pick up at the airport after work on Saturday morning. We got back to my house just in time to drop off their stuff and get moving to the show. It was awesome. Hard, but awesome. That’s what she said. Dude, none of that. We got to the show at like 2:00 and waited in line in about 105 degree temperatures until about 4 when I think the oven dinged and we finally got in. Something like that. We were among the first in, so we got wrist bands to get into the “pit”. The pit was the best place in the world to be before the show because the stage was so huge, it was completely shady. Great place to sit for a couple hours while we drank free water. The show started at 6:30 with some incredibly crappy band. I won’t give their name because they deserve no promotion other than the crappy band that opened for Weezer and RHCP. They played for like the longest 1/2 hour of all time. At around 7:30, Weezer came on. They played “No One Else” which I don’t think they play much which was awesome, but the rest of the set was pretty poor. They played a lot of good songs, but the order was pretty bad. Every time they got the show going, they seemed to kill the energy with something slow. It was almost painful. I went to see Weezer more, but by the end of their set, I just couldn’t wait for the Chili Peppers. And water. I thought I was going to pass out by the end of Weezer. It had been hours since we had water and I was feelin it. When you’re standing like sardines in 110+ and you haven’t had water in a while and you’re covered in sweat, you don’t feel too hot. We were too far in the crowd to get to the guys giving out water in the front and on the sides. I definitely got a bit woozy until some kid came through with a few gallons of water. Most of the water just hit me in the face, but I got enough to keep me from death. Then another kid came through with another few gallons and I got a good bit that time. I thought people were going to be rioting for water it was that bad. But after the few mouthfulls I got the 2nd time, I felt much better and was definitely excited for the RHCP. They came on after a long intermission and the place blew up. So much energy. It was amazing how much every guy worked the crowd. Just a bunch of great performers. I always knew Flea was good, Beavis and Butthead told me so, but he blew me away. Him and Frusciante play together like one person. The whole band is just solid. And the set was sweet. They got it going and slowed it down and got it going just the way it should be done. Just enough to keep the moshers from killing everyone else who just wants to watch the show. By the end, I was covered in nothing but mine and everyone else’s sweat. Completely saturated through my shirt and shorts and everything. My fingers were pruny like I bathed in the stuff. I would definitely see them again and look forward to it actually. The show ended at 11:30 and we ran to the car not caring about the fireworks. We just wanted to get out of there and beat the traffic. But I forgot we got stuck in the back of the parking lot and we were getting nowhere fast. So we did what anyone does after a good rock show… crank Michael Jackson. It was a joyous time for all. 35 minutes later we got out of the lot and flew home by 12:30, tired and exhausted and ready for bed.
Sunday morning, we got up and headed for the strip. Monte Carlo Pub & Brewery. We got some food and a Giraffe of High Roller Red which just gets better and better every time I drink it. I love that place. After we ate we walked around the strip for a while before heading to the Rio buffet for dinner. Only problem was, no one was hungry. We all thought we were, but we all really just needed to drink something. After dinner we headed back to the strip and walked around a bit more. We finished the whole north end of the strip and headed to Casino Royale for a $1 Michelob Light and Harrah’s Piano Bar. Unfortunately the twins weren’t there, but we still hung out and played with cockroaches for a while. We headed home and hit the sack.
Monday was for covering the south end of the strip. However I had to go to work at night so I had to cut the trip short. That sucked so much. You don’t want weekends like this one to end. There just isn’t enough time in the day.
I’m currently watching: MLB Baseball: Baltimore Orioles at New York Yankees
