A7N8X-E Deluxe, SATA II Hard Drives and You

On Friday and Saturday, I replaced my old WD 120GB SATA drives with brand new WD 1TB SATA II drives. Let me tell you, it wasn’t the most fun I’ve ever had; moving loads of data around and around so that I could get all the data from the old to the new. I moved all the data off the old drives on Friday and then yesterday morning I ran into a major snag with my Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe not being compatible with the new SATA II drives. BAM! I never even saw it coming. Fortunately I was able to find a fix on the Asus message boards, New SATA Bios from Silicon Image…. Yep, I needed to update the MoBo to the newest Bios to get it to work but that link had excellent step by step details on the process. Of course I didn’t have a floppy drive but after swapping floppies with an old computer, the Bios was flashed, the the HDs were recognized and I was up and running in no time… moving all the data back to the new drives. Yes, it’s Sunday afternoon and I’m still moving files. What a fun weekend.
