Forget about week 16. Won it with 161.96 points. Forget about week 17. None of that really matters. What matters is that the Galapagos Tortoise once again displayed its dominance by putting on a clinic and bringing home the gold in the "Football's Like My Best Thing" fantasy football league for 2009. Carried by a 13th pick steal, the one, the only, Chris Johnson, en route to his 2000 yard season and Drew Brees doing what he does best, no one, so I've been told, had a chance.
There were stellar seasons all around though. Few weak links. I got exactly what I wanted from Ryan Grant as my 3rd pick. Solid each week finishing as the #7 back despite being the 16th back off the board. Reggie Wayne in the 4th carried my team for the first half of the season. Matt Ryan and Kyle Orton in the 5th and 8th did enough. DeSean Jackson in the 9th round? Umm... I can't complain. Let's not forget Owen Daniels in the 11th round. He was unstoppable until he was stopped. Vernon Davis off the waiver wire (WHAT?) was an OK fill in I suppose. Nothing beats picking up the #1TE off waivers after you lose the #1TE to a season ending injury. The Eagles defense in the 12th came up huge in some real big games throughout the season. And David Akers off the waver wire ended up as the #1 kicker.
There were some busts. As a 6th round pick, Dwayne Bowe played alright and made my WR position pretty crowded despite riding my bench until he missed 1/4th of the year due to suspension. Not too hot. For my W/R, Larry Johnson in the 7th was a complete failure. I got all I needed from Hightower and Wells later on off the waiver wire. And those were just the early busts. Practically no one in the later rounds was on my team by the end of the year.

When all was said and done, the Tortoises won by over 350 points... over 20 points a week. This team also reached a new total points mark for our 10 team league, 2579.99, exacting revenge on the Tom Brady/Randy Moss led J-E-T-S team of 2007 that made me come in 2nd during AP's phenomenal rookie season. It's another fantasy season in the books and it ended the best way possible. With the Galapagos Tortoises on top.

For most leagues, the season is winding down or completely done at this point. Last week was Championship week for even the longest head to head leagues. However, this is a points league and it just keeps on ticking. Good thing too because some teams have everything to play for. The way it looks now, we'll have some crazy competition for 2nd and 3rd places before this thing is through. But these posts are about my team and how it did so let's take a look. The week started on Thursday with Reggie Wayne returning to form against the Jags and finding a whole lot of yards and the end zone. Then there was that other early game on Saturday where Drew Freakin Brees just laid down against the Cowboys. So disgusting we won't discuss it further. Nothing else majorly shocking happened. Players performed just as expected. Oh yeah, all as expected except! for the fact that I had the greatest fantasy day, probably of all time, sitting on my bench. It didn't sting at all though because probably 1% of all people had Jerome Harrison's 34 carries for 286 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns active. 54.7 points. Again though, I was cool with it because Beanie Wells performed better than expected to get me 21.52 points which was plenty enough to snag me another 1st place week and keep my lead growing stronger. And the train kept a rollin...

Last week was something else. I had my best week of the season but I was poised for one of the greatest fantasy weeks ever. I had 174 points going into Monday night with Vernon Davis and Tim Hightower to go. Only needed 17 points to break the unheard of 200 mark. But then it happened once again. Seriously Tim Hightower? .07 points? You fumble the ball on your first carry and only get 1 more carry the rest of the game while you let Beanie Wells carry the load against your tough division rivals? You make me sick. You are benched next week. This is 2 weeks in a row with a critical first drive fumble that cost you significant playing time. Enough is enough. Vernon Davis found the end zone but it wasn't enough. If I had started Wells, I finish with 200.45 points. Instead I finished with 183.77. Other than that though, everything else was ridiculously fantastic. Kyle Orton and DeSean Jackson both broke 20 points. Drew Brees and Ryan Grant both broke 30 points. Chris Johnson??? 40 points. 150 points from 5 guys. What a performance. Reggie Wayne was held to nothing again but he carried me for the first half of the season so I still can't complain.
Oh, and Robbie Gould. You're as good as Gould but your team is complete crap. Watch out for a first aid kit from Peyton Manning because I'm telling him you're cut.

It's that time of the week again... time for my last minute, during next week's games, fantasy rant about last week's stuff. Well last week wasn't a great week but it was a pretty good one. Didn't lose too much ground to anyone. When you need to lose by 50 points a week to win the league and you only lose by about 10 points, you now gotta lose by a whole lot more the rest of the way out. It's science. Well math. Regardless it's fact. Drew Brees had another stellar week as he actually needed some last minute monstrous come from behind awesomeness to beat the Redskins. Matt Ryan was still out with turf toe so I had to roll with Kyle Orton who has been less than stellar since his injury. He was still exceptionally less than stellar. Reggie Wayne has been rendered completely useless since every team started double teaming him constantly a few weeks back and that trend continued. There are just too many weapons on that Colts offense to keep Manning from forcing the ball to Reggie. DeSean was still out with a concussion so I rolled with Maclin. Turns out he was hurt so he didn't anything. But then there's old reliable Chris Johnson who didn't find the end zone but still managed 20 points. Oh, and thank you Eagles D for putting up one of your big defensive games against the Matt Ryan and Michael Turner-less Falcons team. You could have done more if you didn't give up that stupid TD on the last play of the game but I'll deal with 18 points. In the end it was a 130 point week. 4 weeks to go. I'm finally just waiting for my trophy.

Last week was almost hell. Started on Thanksgiving with Ryan Grant against the Lions. Thought I'd get a monster day. He did shit. 13.65 points? That's what you end up always doing against great defenses. I expected way more against the Lions. It's cool though because like I said, that's what I expect from Grant anyway. I still have my whole team to go.
So I get up a little bit earlier on Sunday, despite the Eagles being on TV, because I was planning on starting Jason Snelling all week in place of Michael Turner but then it sounded like Turner was going to start the few days prior. Well he did. Way to go Falcons. You fully deserve him being hurt more severely this week. Anyway, I had to find a replacement quick. Sure I could have gone with Tim Hightower or Beanie Wells but where's the fun in that? I saw the Bengals were holding out the very healthy Cedric Benson just because they were playing the Browns and I just couldn't pass up the Browns match-up so I picked up Bernard Scott who was hot the week before filling in for Benson. Looked like a great move. So about an hour later I'm paying attention to the 5 people I had starting in the morning games and I'm getting no points. Turns out my guys had been dropping like flies. Matt Ryan pretty much got hurt stepping onto the field and his day was done with .5 points. Fantastic. 1 QB down. Then my hot start of the week, Bernard Scott, who had been running pretty well in the game, goes down with turf toe. Day done with 12.3 points. He coulda been in the 20s. AND THEN DeSean goes down with a concussion. Thank heavens he had already found the end zone but he finished with 2 catches, 41 yards and a TD. He probably should have had 2 TDs but we won't go there.
Regardless, I had a bunch of key positions started in those morning games and only Reggie Wayne was playing in the 2nd half. And he still had a very non Reggie Wayne day. Found the end zone but only had 3 catches for 19 yards. Ugh. David Akers was pretty much my best and most consistent player of the morning with his whole 12 points. Glad I have that huge lead now aren't I? I really only have Chris Johnson and Drew Brees left and the 2nd place team has like 75 points on me.
But then we all know how that went. Chris Johnson did what he does best yet again and gets me 27.88 points. That included outscoring everyone on my team with a single 80 yard TD run. But wait, there's more. Drew Brees won player of the week for a reason. Almost 400 yards and 5TDs. 38 points. Just what the doctor ordered on Monday night.
Despite how we got there, in the end it was another very good week. I only lost about 12 points of my huge lead. However, this week coming up may be my toughest test with an injury depleted lineup and poor defensive match-ups scattered all over the place. The huge lead will surely be tested this week. 5 weeks to go. Bend but don't break is what they say. I just gotta avoid running a prevent defense.

Gotta love last week's fantasy rant midway through this week's games. That's dedication holmes. Well, I won again. Pretty good week up and down. It was going terrible until I made 2 weeks ago's fantasy rant midway through last weeks games and everyone turned it on like a light. I was bashing Brees and Ryan and then they turned it around. Ryan Grant had another good game and Chris Johnson is... well Chris Johnson. Only bad thing was that Reggie Wayne couldn't find the end zone. Sure I had a tough decision to make whether I should start B Wells or T Hightower but it didn't turn out that bad. I went with Hightower and he only lost by 2 points so I hardly lost sleep over it. In the end it was a 167 point week... I finished 1st by .18 points... and my lead jumped up to like 230 points or something. I can almost see the finish line at this point. Or can I?
P.S. I'm not Nostradamus. It's just that most of week 12's fantasy numbers are already in.

I was in San Diego last week for the Eagles game against the Chargers so I really have no idea what happened in football other than the final numbers. I guess the end result is all that really matters though in fantasy football. I had another good week thanks to Reggie Wayne and Chris Johnson once again. It seems like they can bail me out whenever anything bad happens... say for instance like when your 2 QBs only put up 30 points total. Mother effers these guys are. Drew Brees sure isn't performing like a 1st round pick and I've completely lost hope in Matt Ryan. Same story every week. I just hope Ryan's playing this crappy when the Falcons play the Eagles. Yeah right... we all know the Eagles bring out the best in anyone who's slumping or just plain crappy. Case in point? I saw first hand that the Eagles D got lit up consistently from the Chargers offense, more specifically from the aging, slumping, LT. During the 1st half it seemed like they couldn't stop a thing and it showed with the 1 whole point they were able to get me. Oh, and I sure miss Owen Daniels. Vernon Davis was on fire before Daniels went down. Since I've needed him he hasn't been doing much. Looks like my TE position has returned to the way it used to be in year's past. I have just short of a 200 point lead now with 7 weeks to go and boy does it look like I'll need it. A bunch of other teams are coming on strong and my team looks like it could break at any moment.

See people, I told you I could lose at fantasy football. A just above average fantasy week has let 2nd place catch me by almost 3 points and let 3rd place catch me by almost 44 points. 44 points! A few more of those and I'm toast. There's still a lot of football left to be played... And dammit Drew Brees and Matt Ryan, you had better get your acts together. I mean a bad Drew Brees week still got me 18 points however that is not first round pick, elite QB status. I expect 30 points from him every week and he hasn't done that in quite some time. And Matt Ryan who started off the season pretty hot has cooled down so much he is definitely worthy of that Matty "Ice" status. He better start doing something because he barely got into double digits this week. It's getting worse each week. It was a bad week all around though. Neither WR found anything as my TE outscored both of them combined and he didn't even find the end zone. Luckily the RBs bailed me out this week, especially Chris Johnson in another monster performance and Ryan Grant against his soft TB matchup. Just when I started feeling comfortable with my 150 point lead, my team had to go and bring me back to Earth. Still, no changes to be made at this point. The guys just gotta produce.

Not much doing this week. I could have had one of those epic 180 pointers but for some reason, Drew Brees hasn't been at his elite level the last few weeks and Matt Ryan has really been struggling over the same time span. Some more news; I lost Owen Daniels for the season. That's fun. After 1 catch this week you lose the #1 TE who was producing like a WR for you. Oh well. Lucky for me, some how, some way, Vernon Davis, the #2 TE who is actually the #1 TE after week 8, was a free agent. I'll take it happily and hope he can fill Owen's shoes nicely. Luckily, that's all the bad that happened this week. Brees put up 21 instead of the 30 I was hoping for, Ryan couldn't crack 15 and Daniels got me less than 2 points. In the end I still got a very good 162 points and increased my lead over 2nd place to 171 points.
Some good news... all my bye weeks are done and Tim Hightower is scoring like every week so I think my job here is done. My lineup should be set from here on out and I can just sit back and watch this thing play out.

I'm gonna get right to the point:
Tim Hightower - Your Cardinals won but they sure as hell didn't deserve it. Luckily you got me an early TD or else I would have been screwed. The Cards went up 21-0 early and just kept throwing the ball, never really tried to run the ball and kill the clock. We can all guess what happened next. The Texans scored 21 unanswered points before DR-C had a pick 6. Then Houston still almost ties it up again but the Cardinals Def. made a huge stop as the Texans couldn't score on 3 tries from the 1. Ken Whisenhunt HAD to go to the Andy Reid school of coaching.
Matt Ryan and Glen Coffee - Unfortunately for me the Falcons went up so big, so fast that even without Coffee's injury, he never really had a chance. This also slowed down Matty Ice from throwing the ball. He got 30 points but could have had an insanely monster game. He had 20 at the half and because of a rushing TD got to 30 but man, his day could have been epic since the 49ers Def. decided to not show up.
Desean Jackson - The Bucs game plan was obviously to stop Desean from doing anything by doubling him. Hey Bucs, how'd that work out for you? Maclin is completely awesome and went off but that sure didn't help my fantasy team. Sure wish I didn't bench Dwayne Bowe's touchdown. Until this week, they were both scoring every week. This is gonna be a tough call all year and through 5 weeks I haven't gotten it right yet.
Next week -
What I'm looking forward to: Ryan Grant vs Lions. I hope his O line finally finds their way against a team who can't really stop anyone but can keep it competitive. However, this game has upset written all over it.
What I'm not looking forward to: Drew Brees vs Giants. Brees hasn't done anything in weeks. Now he gets the best Def. in the league. I hope he can step up against a banged up secondary.

Well, well, well, bye weeks... so we meet again. And this year you're not messing around. You take a QB, WR, K and Def. from me right off the bat and after I already had an injured WR and then all coming after I had to take out the trash last week? This week wasn't looking good. Couldn't wait to start Kyle Orton. Oh yes, that's always something to look forward to. But Kyle's not the problem here, he somehow managed to come through because of 1 huge TD pass. My problem was having to make my first crappy decision that we all knew just wouldn't come through. I picked up Nate Burleson earlier in the week but by Saturday night I strongly talked myself into using Santana Moss. I woke up early on Sunday morning and if Santana Moss hadn't been picked up by anyone, I'd make my move. I wake up and some freakin how I talk myself into just sticking with my original gut feeling. I figured that the Seahawks would surely be playing from behind so they'll have to throw all day. Burleson's just gonna get more looks and catches and in turn produce the coveted WR TD. Then there's Moss who's really only ever good for 3 or so catches. I took the odds. The odds were not in my favor. Moss had like 2 catches for 70 yards and a TD. Burleson had 4/31/0. It was only a loss of ~8 points but those missed calls are always painful. And in the end everything worked out and the week was fine. Man, these posts are tough to write when almost everything goes right. One final tough bye week coming up next week, then it's hopefully smooth sailing the rest of the way out.

We all knew it had to end sometime but unfortunately the honeymoon is over. The 2 weeks of ~170 points came to a screeching halt with a measly 121 point performance. Good news though... there seemed to be no points to go around for anyone this week; it wasn't just my team. This week was seriously f'ed up though. Drew Brees puts up 9 whole points after averaging 34 points over the first 2 weeks. Really? You can only throw for 172 yards and no TDs against the Buffalo Bills? You're trying to break records here. Don't forget that. And Felix Jones, your futility is astounding. You're like the dude from Unbreakable... or Rob. You've never had more than 10 carries in a game and you pretty much get hurt stepping on the field. You have been dropped. I don't have time for you with bye weeks coming up. And the same goes for you Larry Johnson. Your offense is always broken just like Felix Jones' body and I don't think it's going to get any better anytime soon. You're probably going to lose your job to Jamaal Charles anyway. I thought you were a steal as my #3RB in round 7. You were a 1st round pick just a few years ago. Life has not been good to you. It really makes you wonder what kind of career you could have had if you went to a half decent team and didn't spend your whole career on the bumbass Chiefs. You have been dropped! Bring on the byes.

Dude, Anthony Gonzalez, wtf!? You're not even on my team and you're totally screwing me. Week 1, Reggie Wayne puts up 18 points. This week 4. And here I actually thought you going down last week was going to get Reggie some more looks. All it did was get Reggie double covered all day and let Clark run free as usual. And to think I wanted to over draft you. So thankful I didn't get you at all. And holy crap Eagles Def., wtf!? I didn't think you'd shut down the Saints offense but I thought you'd at least show up. That has to be the biggest swing from week to week of all time. 29 points in week 1 and then 2 points in week 2. And I can't even credit you for the 2 points! It was really a designed Saints safety that gave you the 2 points. If you didn't spot me 4 weeks of points up front, I don't know what I would do right now. MFers. Oh, and Packers O-line. If you don't pick it up next week, I don't know what I'll do... but I'll sure be angry. Ryan Grant apparently can't do it alone. You guys can't be the crappiest team in the league. I'm not buying it. Losing to the Bengals... man, oh, man.

Everybody's favorite Terententen segment is back! It's time for your weekly fantasy rant, 2009 edition. So sit back, relax, and get ready because hopefully I'll keep the will to keep these posts flowing week to week.
You obviously read in my last fantasy post,
Fantasy Football Draft 2009 that I was quite pleased with my draft and was expecting some good things from this team. Unfortunately, I wasn't expecting these good things to start coming right away because week 1 didn't show the best of matchups. It started off with the first game of the season and my 1RB (Chris Johnson) vs the best Def. in all of the land, the Steelers. FAIL! Then my 2RB and 3RB sure didn't pick up the slack, barely breaking 20 points combined. EPIC FAIL! 3 running backs, 30 frickin' points? Even I didn't expect it to be that low. That sure won't get you far.
Don't worry though, this column isn't just about those fails, it's also about the 1QB (Drew Brees) tossing 6 TDs and my Def. (Philadelphia) putting up 30 points thanks to Delhomme apparently being French for turnover. Oh, and when both WRs find the end zone, it almost always turns out to be a decent week. That my friends is how you finish with 170 points. See, everything turned out great in the end. I ended up having one of my best fantasy weeks ever, reminiscent of those Adrian Peterson rookie year weeks. Now I don't expect my Def. to put up 30 points ever again let alone every week, but I do expect my RBs to pick up the production by like 75%/week which should pick up some of the slack. All in all, week 1 was an epic success. Let's keep it up Galapagos Tortoises... way to come out the gates strong.

Today was the big Fantasy Football draft we've all been waiting for since football season ended way back when. It seemed like such a long time coming since we decided to skip playing fantasy baseball this year. Sure my heart is a whole lot healthier without the stress of the long fantasy baseball season but the lack of fantasy sure left a void in my life. I was going pretty crazy the last week. Today was rough. The good news is, the draft wasn't.
That's because I'm pretty happy how everything worked out. It was probably the fastest draft our league has ever had, coming in at around 1 hour and 15 minutes for a 10 team, 2 QB fantasy football league. For me, the first few rounds flew by and everything fell into place. I had the 8th overall pick which is normally where I land in whatever Yahoo! likes to call random. Regardless, with the 8th pick I was able to snag Drew Brees whom I would have taken as high as 3. Pretty good deal. Still looking for best available, I took Chris Johnson at 13. That pick could be hit or miss. Then when the 28th pick came back around and Ryan Grant was on the board, I jumped on him. I pretty much liked him where I took Johnson so I loved to get him 15 picks later. At 4 I needed to target a trusty WR so I got Peyton Manning's new undisputed #1 target, Reggie Wayne. Sometime between my Brees pick and now, QBs flew off the board. Not wanting to get stuck with a garbage #2 QB with my 5th pick I took Matt Ryan. I'm unfortunately expecting big things from Matty Ice in his 2nd year.
At this point in the draft I was still rolling. 2QBs, 2RBs, and a stud WR who I've always wanted to have. I wanted to solidify my wideouts so in the 6th round I took 3rd year WR Dwayne Bowe. The say that's the year WRs finally figure it all out so hopefully he can build on his already good numbers. Then with 1 important position left to fill, W/R, Larry Johnson falls into my lap with the 68th pick in the 7th round. I don't particularly like the Chiefs but I do like those last 2 picks.
That's it, I can relax... and that's what I did. The rest of the draft is best available to fill bye weeks. Everything has worked out until this point. When I needed a position, the guy I wanted was there. I'm pretty happy but we're just halfway done. I then take Kyle Orton as my 3rd string backup QB, DeSean Jackson as my backup WR, and Felix Jones who was owning last year until he got injured. I still needed a TE but after the big 4 were gone, they're all pretty much the same so I flipped a hypothetical coin and went with Owen Daniels. Defensively I took Philadelphia. Not too confident with this group just from preseason but it's only preseason. I'm hoping they can turn it on once the season starts. JJ will be missed.
3 rounds left, nothing I really want. Take 2 kickers and call me in the morning. Jason Elam and Robbie Gould. That'll do pig... that'll do. Then for the 15th and final round I see a good deal of decent players left. I was between LeSean McCoy who looked insanely awesome in the preseason and Donald Brown. Lucky for me McCoy went right before my pick so I took Brown. I like it.
All in all, my biggest concern of the draft was taking Kyle Orton as my #3 QB. However if my #3 QB is my big mistake of the draft, I should be in for a pretty good year. Fantasy football is a good deal of luck. Players need to stay healthy and they need to perform but I think I have a very competitive team. Only time will tell though. The season starts in 5 days and I can't wait now. Ahh, the joy of fantasy sports.

I guess the Tortoises were so slow and lethargic that after finally showing up in fantasy football last week, they weren't able to make it back to play some baseball for the final week of the season. They batted .214 over the last week, their final 299 ABs, and excluding 1 good day during that week, they batted .171 in 251 of their last ABs. The last 2 days are what really hurt. .122 over 98 ABs and the last day? A disgusting .098 over 51 ABs. A month ago the Tortoises were getting 9 or 10 points from AVG. Today? 3.5. That'll do it. So the Galapagos Tortoises, the most powerful and awesome beasts in all of the land, only managed 2nd place in the 2008 fantasy baseball season.
It certainly may seem like it but what I'm about to say actually wasn't brought on by the last week's events... I am stepping away from Fantasy Baseball. I don't know yet if it's permanent or if it's just for the 2009 season but I've thought long and hard over this for probably the last 3 years and finally came to a decision about a month ago. I said whether I won or lost the league this year that I was stepping away from the game. The fantasy baseball season is way too long and maddening that it just doesn't seem worth it anymore. Fantasy baseball has turned baseball into one giant stat for me and I'd rather focus on the game, not just the numbers. 6 years of fantasy baseball. 3 gold trophies and 2 silver trophies. Not too shabby. I'll look back at them fondly while I think about how much longer I'll live not worrying about my damn lineup every single day and how I'm doing in every stat category. In the words of the great Willy Wonka, "Adieu, adieu, parting is such sweet sorrow."

Even though we're not halfway done baseball yet, football's right around the corner. I'm just letting everyone know that I got the
Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football '07 league all set up for this year. The league name is
Terententen Sports Talk (ID #9468) and the draft is scheduled for Sat Sep 1 10:00am PDT, which is 67 days, 15 hours and 51 minutes from now. It's the last Saturday before the season starts and it's about the normal time we've been doing for the drafts. If there are major scheduling problems, let me know and we'll see what we can work out. I hope everyone can make it back to the league and make the draft as well. Oh, and don't forget about the actual
Terententen Sports Talk. There's always sports talk happening but once the football season gets in full swing, the boards really get going. Once again, any problems, let me know. Thanks.

So Chris calls me at 7:06PM tonight and asks if I can do his fantasy baseball draft for a 2nd league he's in. Who am I to say no to a baseball draft during fantasy baseball weekend? Hell yeah I'll do it. So I get in there and it's the 4th round. Already drafted Soriano, Cabrera and CLee. Let's do this!

3 hours later and everything had sunk in. The draft was done and I had some idea of what happened. The draft itself took just shy of 2 hours; not bad. I wouldn't care if it went 3 though. People need to stop complaining when people use their full allotted time to make a pick. All the planning and knowledge in the world can't prepare you for a completely random draft. That's what the time's there for. Anyway, here's my 2007 Fantasy Baseball Team for Mike Tyson's Punch Out (ID# 23345). As always, I'm not completely happy with it, but I say that every year. I took a lot of chances in this draft and I need to hope they pay off. I mean every year I take chances such as my 2005 team which ended up being awesome because I had Soriano and then a bunch of guys that blew up like Utley, Michael Young, Mauer, Crawford and Hafner. The staff wasn't too bad either with Colon winning the Cy Young as my last drafted pitcher. Look at
that team.
But this is 2007 and let's go through this draft. I had my top 10 set as 1. Pujols, 2. Howard, 3. Reyes, 4. Arod, 5. Crawford, 6. Soriano, 7. Utley, 8. Ortiz, 9. Guerrero and 10. Cabrera. The actual draft sort of looked like that, only better for me. Santana went as I expected at 4 which opened up a world of possibilities. I got Arod first with the 5th pick and then managed to get Crawford at 16 with my 2nd pick. 2 in my top 10. Can't be too angry at that. I mean if Santana didn't go 4 and Arod went instead, I was gonna have trouble pulling the trigger on Crawford at 5 and probably would have went Soriano or Utley. I didn't really want Soriano and 5 is too early for Utley. It all worked out though.
Looking at it, Crawford has to be my favorite pick of my draft at 16. I mean the man's AVG has been improving every year and he's now batting above .300, his power #s are climbing and he'll still swipe about 50 bases. My least favorite pick of the draft? My 4th round with Furcal. I'm not a Furcal fan but Young went right before and I wanted a top tier guy at that position. It was probably a mistake taking him that early but I wanted a SS by round 4 and that was what was left.
All in all, I need some help. I need some players to develop and some to bounce back to form. Time to see how this whole thing plays out. It's a long season boys and girls. See you in October.

I haven't posted in a while. Why not? Because I spend like every waking moment thinking about baseball. I spend all day between ESPN.com, Phillies.com and CNN.com (I gotta break it up a little). I wake up and then it starts. When's the draft? So I look it up. Sweet. So I read some baseball news to see what's going on. A few hours later... when's the draft? And the cycle repeats itself. I do throw in some NFL news because for some reason ESPN will not let us forget that the NFL is in fact still in existance between the constant front page coverage and NFL Live which is still on a month after the season is over.
Anyway, you may be thinking that I need to calm down about the draft, it'll get here when it gets here. However I can't help thinking that I have a horrible memory problem and should most certainly remember when the draft is after about the hundreth time of looking. Good thing is though, I'm starting to come around. As I read more and more baseball news, and as it gets closer to the season, it's getting much easier to remember how quickly everything is coming up. Plus we now have 9 people in the league and are only waiting for 1 more person to join.
A little over 18 days and 10 hours to go for the draft and then only like 7 more days after that until the season starts. Then we'll have baseball on TV for like 2 weeks before ESPN pulls it again for retarded programming that no one wants to watch and I get angry but can do nothing so I'm stuck watching Stat Tracker at all times to get baseball updates. That's how it goes I guess.

I've felt empty the last few days with no fantasy sports. I mean don't get me wrong, January, February and most of March with no fantasy sports is probably going to do wonders for my health, however I keep finding myself looking at the football league as if something's going to change. And I didn't even have a good football year. Fantasy sports are a disease. A disease I tell you. But take your rest now because the 2007 Fantasy Season is quickly approaching, and baseball is a long one. Fantasy seasons are like basketball season. They last forever, you get a couple months off and then are back for more. Just likea a disease with no cure.

It's over and the
2006 Galapagos Tortoises have proven themselves to be far superior to any weak animals including pesky pandas and winning the Brian Fellow's Safari Planet league. This also signals the greatness of the
_thesunking_ Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball Dynasty. Champions in 03, 05 and now 06. It wasn't easy; I took the lead somewhere around week 3 and kept it for like 18 weeks but during the final 4 of them I certainly felt the heat. Then after the collapse during the final month, I thought I was all but done and I was gonna turn out like the
1964 Phillies.
However, I kept hanging in there. Chris Tom was laughing at me 2 weeks ago but who's laughing now. 3rd place... hah! I even toppled over him during the final month in his other league and pulled off 3rd place there. Back to the important stuff... Tim almost pulled it off... I was scared... we went into the final weekend tied up... but in the end my team pulled it off.
I'll have to give MVP honors to David Ortiz who finished 7th and kept me rolling during the tough summer months but certainly co-MVP to Matt Holliday who went above and beyond going 2nd over the last month and finished 9th overall keeping me alive in the end. My Cy Young award goes to Roy Oswalt who went 15-8 with a 2.98 ERA, 5-0 over the last month with a 1.85 ERA. I had some over achievers but mostly under achievers and still pulled it off. It's the only thing that kept me going. Completing my dynasty.

I'd like to thank my mom, my dad, Kristin who sat by me during my pre-draft planning, my draft and throughout the tumultuous year, everyone who stood by me through the ups and downs, not Rob who focused his efforts on stealing as many points from me as possible at the end so that he wouldn't come in last place, anyone I might be forgetting here and especially the wonderful power of the Galapagos Tortoise who willed me to the championship. I couldn't have done it without you.

Mondays and Tuesdays are always better after a good fantasy weekend. Unfortunately for me, I had a pathetic weekend. Luckily for me, I had the Eagles game. But that's not what this column is for. So I'll start with the first game of the weekend with guys on my team. A guy; Chris Chambers. How did you drop that pass? It hit you in the hands in the endzone. It was the only good pass from Culpepper all night. You're only gonna get a few of them a game, you gotta make that catch. Now for the biggest flop of the weekend? Jake Plummer. Man, oh, man, Jake. This year I decided to take players I didn't like, hate even, if it would help me in fantasy. Don't let it happen again. ESPN says it was because you were pressured most of the game because your line wasn't doing too great for you, but don't make me hate you anymore than I already do. Other than that, the rest of my team didn't show up either, but no less than most of the players in the league. Some bombed, however most did alright, just didn't find the endzone. However, big performances for top fantasy players were just few and far between on Sunday. I mean when Kevin Jones gets me more points than Sean Alexander woulda gotten me, there's just not much to say. Only a few stars that should have, actually shone this weekend which just makes for a pretty boring fantasy weekend. I'm ready to fast forward to next week. My team just looks too good on paper to do what it did this weekend.
Top 5 after week 1:
- Baltimore Ravens
- Donovan McNabb
- Kurt Warner
- Frank Gore
- Charlie Batch
Yeahhhh.

Alright, 1 hour and 26 minutes later and it's all done. Good luck.
Oh I can't leave it like that. So we had a good turnout. And we already had a move. I may have to put a cap on this league. Anyway, I think we actually had 80%-90% which is just outstanding. So many people talking I didn't even know that many people showed. There was so much build up for this draft it was insane. I guess we'll just have to see how it goes. I don't think this league'll let us down though. It should be a fun year. And with only 1 draft league and gridiron, I may just be able to bring back my fantasy rant. I know some will be excited for that. Almost as excited as the actual season starting. What time is it?
GAME TIME HUH!!!I'll post my team later but for now I gotta go pick out tile and cabinets.
Let's go State!

So I'm leaving in less than 24 hours so I started getting ready. What did I do first? Make sure my pitchers are ok for the next 9 days of course. What else would anyone do? Wait, let me rephrase that. I did my best to set my pitchers for the next 9 days. I won't have any Internet access while I'm away. It's probably a good thing though because I could definitely use a break from Fantasy Baseball. However, that means no new Terententen for 10 days for you guys. I hope you all make it. You can all talk amongst yourselves I guess. Hopefully this isn't my last post before I go, but I wanted to give a heads up. I'll be back Saturday the 26th. Don't rush my good time folks. It'll make me angry and I'll have to punch you in the ovaries. Right in the babymaker.
