Terententen Travels the World

So I've been thinking a lot about traveling lately. A lot. Maybe it's cause it's almost summertime or maybe it's because I'm 27 and I already want to retire and just go places. Tonight I booked my trip to San Francisco in July for the Phillies series. Traveling is expensive. Next up will be the trip to San Diego in October for the Eagles game. Those 2 trips are happening. Can't wait. I'm also tinkering with a few other trips that have been festering in the back of my mind. I definitely want to go to both of these places before I inevitably move away from the west coast.

1... Seattle. Unfortunately it's gonna be hard to get an inter-league series with the Phillies and the Eagles were just in Seattle last year but I really want to go to Safeco and I'd be thrilled to just to see Griffey play a ballgame in the city that I grew up loving him in.

2... Hawaii. I've wanted to go back since the moment I left. I always heard Hawaii did that to you and it sure did. Only thing I don't know is if I want to go back to Kauai or if I want to go to Maui this time. I'm leaning towards Maui at the moment. Sure another week in Hawaii would be costly but you only live once, right? Am I too young to be saying that?

I don't think anything else on the west coast really intrigues me. Any ideas? And don't say Walla Walla, Keokuk or Kookamunga.

Phillies and Bar Rafaeli. 1 degree of separation.

Cole Hamels SI coverI just got my copy of the new Cole Hamels Sports Illustrated. It's great to know he's signed, sealed and has already delivered. Unfortunately I won't be getting to see him pitch this April when I'm home because he'll be pitching opening day and I've only got 2 TICKETS TO THE APRIL 8TH RING CEREMONY GAME!!! I tried getting them last week however the tickets didn't officially go on sale until the 19th and they sold out well before then. I found out today that my dad was able to get a couple tickets to the game so all is well. That was definitely some great and unexpected news.

Bar Rafaeli SI CoverYou know what else is great? The freakin Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition this year. It's definitely the first head turner in a long time. It's not really new news but I figured if I'm posting 1 SI cover, why not post what could be the greatest cover ever.

Honeymoon in Hawaii

So I'm back. Been back since Saturday. The trip was great. It's just so disappointing that it's all over. The wedding, the honeymoon. All done. You plan for over a year and everything's done so fast. The last 3 weeks flew by so incredibly fast. And what's worse is that time felt like it was moving pretty slow. Now that I'm back, the last few days have gone by at warp speed. I guess this is it. Fly through life with no way to slow it down. Unless I can figure out a way to permanently go on vacation to Hawaii. Time there just moves at a beautiful pace.

So yeah, Kauai was great. I had Internet the whole time down there so I should have done this as it was going on but I didn't. Deal with it. Re..gard...less... We got there real early Saturday the 19th and didn't do much. Just really checked into the Sheraton. We were exhausted from the red eye as well as going back 3 hours. So for like the first 3 nights we crashed by 9PM. Sunday we spent hours and hours traveling through Waimea Canyon which is like a mini green Grand Canyon. Monday morning was our helicopter flight around the island. I have a DVD if anyone's interested in watching. Riiiiiight. Monday night was also the Sheraton luau. The food was outstanding. Didn't try the poi though so don't ask. There was too much other good stuff to eat rather than waste space on what looked terrible. Tuesday we saw more naturey stuff. Wednesday we moved to the north side of the island. It was pretty different up there. More relaxing which unfortunately seemed to make time move faster. We saw most of the north sights (there aren't that many) and then it was pretty much time to come home. Very depressing. Then I won't even get involved with Sunday when we tried to see Batman and failed. I'm ending this post now before I even start talking about going back to work on Monday and hating life again. Can't wait for the weekend.

And so it begins...

At the airport about to fly back to Philly. When I return I won't be so much of a changed man but I guess things sure will be different. At least from a legal standpoint. As for nerves, yeah, there are some, but that's probably more about the actual event than what will follow. It should be some kind of week. Highs and lows but I don't think at all relaxing. Maybe large quantities of alcohol and food will help that. Or maybe I'll just have to wait 2 weeks.

I bought my guitar. Yeah, you heard me right.

I ordered my guitar last night. It shipped today. I leave for the Bahamas tomorrow night. I should be back Sunday. I should have my guitar by Monday. It's gonna be a weekend full of highs I suppose.

What is that you said? Finally, after all these years, you've finally purchased your acoustic guitar? Yessir, that's right. I finally purchased my acoustic guitar. A Taylor 414ce. Beautiful.

Question: What kind of bear is best?

Yeah, I'm back. It appears lots of stuff has happened. I won't get into sports which has been thrust into high gear, but I will get into the brand new Street Fighter: The Later Years - Part 4. And yes, this time there will be plenty of new episodes, one debuting each month. Also I was home last week. I got home Saturday morning, went up to Reading and had a great time. All you can eat pasta, tons of other food, tons of drink. Good times. After that I pretty much laid around the house watching TV all week, Matlock and Bonanza of course, and just relaxing. That's about it. And a lot of eating of course, but as we all know that's a given. But I'm home now. I got a lot of catching up to do.

San Diego Part 2

So where were we. Saturday night and we're back at the hotel and drinking. And from what you can already read into from Matt's comment in SD Part 1, we ran into a little unexpected, unfriendly bastard, known as last call. Now some of you may be familiar with this "last call", but after living in Vegas for 3 years, I have come to know last call as "whenever the hell I feel like going to bed"; not freaking 1:30AM and out the door by 2AM. I mean the party was just getting started and here they are ringing a damn bell and kicking us out because they want to go home. What a bunch of crap. It's complete BS. And then people just accept it like it's how it's supposed to be. Well it's wrong on so many levels. We were drinking at our Starhot rates, playing pool, hanging out and finally getting drunk. It's really a sin. Communism isn't even the word for it.

Something good did come from the night. ESPN was on every station in the bar and the ESPYs came on repeat and during the intro they showed Tony Romo in the greatest clip ever that never gets old and the 3 of us started cracking up and since the bar had a lot of Phillies fans in it, they looked up to see what was so funny and saw us laughing and then saw the TV and then they started cracking up. So there we all were laughing at Tony Romo's bum ass fumble the hold in the playoffs because like I've already said, it never gets old.

So after they threw us out, we went back and crashed. I thought a little bit about how funny it'd be to walk up to a polar bear and give him a cup of ice. Man, it still cracks me up. Think about it. What on Earth does he need ice for? There in lies the humor of it all. Anyway, we got up the next morning and made a run for it. The worst part of the trip was now ahead of us... the long ride home. And it certainly didn't get off to a great start. We drove like a million miles and couldn't find one damn McDonalds for breakfast. California is the only place in the world with no McDonalds for like a 20 mile stretch. Or at least without signs. But hey, it could have been far worse. We were going north. Judging by the traffic on I-15S practically the entire 200 miles, they had the worst of it.

Just as we were getting home, we learned that Phils took the final game from the Padres 9-0. It was the most fitting end to a weekend I could imagine. We completely ruined Tony Gwynn weekend for all those Padres fans. Oh, and we can never forget Rob pulling doughnuts at that gas station just outside SD on Thursday night. All in all, it was one heck of a weekend. It certainly beats working for a living. Hey, and maybe after this weekend, if the Phils can win 2 for us, the panda'll start making a comeback.

San Diego Part 1

San Diego was great. We left on Thursday around 6PM and got to SD around 11. Then we checked in, went to the room and... had to leave the room because they put us in a room with 1 king bed. Now I don't know what kind of stuff the guy at the desk thought was going to happen with 3 guys checking into one room but yeah, that wasn't going to work. We went back down and got another room, however this room was in the 2nd tower of the hotel; the second tower which just happened to be a 10 minute walk away. Eh, it wasn't so bad. We also got our Starhot card which got us 50% off food, drink and oh yes, alcohol for the duration of our stay. It was after 1AM before we got to sleep, but don't worry, we were only getting up at like 6AM.

So we got up early Friday morning, went to breakfast and then headed off to the zoo by 9. It was a great morning, the sun wasn't out so it wasn't hot, and it wasn't too cold. It was also early enough that all the important animals were up and about. We went right to the feeble pandas who were actually alive, eating and one was even playing with a ball. Then it was off to the polar bears, by way of the grumpy zebras, but they were freaking amazing. There was more fighting going on than a UFC event. Speaking of the next UFC event... if it's not Randy Couture versus a polar bear in the octagon, I'm not watching it. More highlights of the zoo were the crazy hippo, the lazy rhino, the elephant who pissed what had to be 5 gallons of urine and of course the Galapagos tortoises. They are the greatest animals in all of the land.

After we killed the zoo in like 5 hours, we headed back to the hotel for some drinks, some dinner and then off to the game. The game was great. Other than the fact that it was like 6 degrees below 0 and we had shorts and sandals on. I thought San Diego was 80 and sunny all year long. Anyway, Utley hit a shot to dead center field, pretty impressive in Petco, and Mr. 10,000 came back from getting roughed up by the ump to get the W. And we got to laugh all the way to the Gaslamp district.

Yes, the way too trendy Gaslamp district. Just not my cup of tea. I mean the women are gorgeous and they are everywhere but all the eye candy in the world just might not be worth it for the amount of trendiness that is going on in that place. It's more expensiveness and trendiness than any 5 cities need. We chilled down there for a while and then headed back to the hotel led by the one insane cab driver. I mean the guy is supposed to know his city in which he drives in to make his living yet he was turning the wrong way down streets and just couldn't stay in his lane. Good thing Rob was in the front seat cause I just couldn't watch.

Saturday morning we slept in and then headed to Mission Beach for a little while to get our feet wet, check it out and eat the greasiest breakfast sandwiches from Jack In The Box ever. Then we headed back to the hotel for more drinking and then off to game #2.

Once again, we took a cab. Which leads me to ask; What the hell is wrong with cab drivers? I mean this guy was definitely the 3rd craziest cab driver ever with the 1st being the guy from Friday night. What was the 2nd? The 2nd hasn't driven me anywhere yet. But the 3rd was alright until he made the most illegal move ever, making a blatant right hand turn from the left hand turn lane across a straight lane AND a right hand turn lane while we all had the green light. Insane. And he also drove most of the way on the shoulder. I think I'm changing my order to this guy as #1 and Friday night's guy as #3 with #2 still yet to be determined.

Back to the game. Now you gotta understand. Seeing a Phils win in person is more elusive than seeing a Panda bear not half dead. It certainly isn't impossible, but good luck. Rob might have had the longest wait but Matt and I have seen more losses in the last few years than we can count. Luckily I was 1-0 in Petco park before this trip and after Friday, 2-0. But we came to SD expecting to see loss 10,005 and instead we saw 2 of the best victories I've seen live. Nothing's better than being at a road win... except being at 2 straight road wins. The Phils, led by Jamie Moyersaurus, walked all over the Padres. Howard hit 2 shots and everyone pretty much joined in on the fun. Especially us doing our best to get hated on by the locals. It was just freaking great.

After the game we went right back to the hotel to start drinking.

I've been writing this post all night. I'm going to bed. I'll finish it tomorrow. And then maybe I'll proofread this long post and add zoo pictures as well.

Phoenix

So I never posted about our trip to Phoenix and now everyone who had a chance to go, except Rob who's holding out for the much better San Diego trip in July, wants to know how it went. Well it was great. I missed 2 days of work, got to see a ball game and I only spent like $150 for the whole thing.

We left Sunday afternoon and drove to Phoenix. We drove through the dam, through the boring desert where there were cool mountain formations, through the town of Kingman which is like the only stop before you get to the Phoenix suburbs, the town of Surprise!, a Phoenix suburb, where I truly was surprised because I came upon my first traffic light in like a hundred miles after being lulled to sleep by desert and metal dinosaurs and tumbleweed. Oh yeah and the car got hit by a tornado on the way too. It was insane. I really felt bad for the truck a few hundred yards in front who got the brunt of the tornado and tumbleweed but we got hit nonetheless. We also drove past the alien looking University of Phoenix football spaceship... err stadium in Glendale which looked awesome and I hope I can get there one day. Anyway, it took like 5-5.5 hours to get to the hotel and that was stopping for lunch too so all in all, not bad. We checked in, watched part of the Phillies/Giants game and then drove to Arizona State which was like a mile from our hotel.

At ASU we ran into hippies. A lot of friggin hippies. The place was nothing but people who apparently don't like to bathe. I don't get it. I don't remember all the hippies from when I was there before but I remembered I didn't like the school and I'm even more glad I didn't go there. So we found a bar, had a few beers and watched the end of the Phils game. Then we ate some dinner, headed back to the hotel and went to the bar 'til last call.

The next day we headed to the ballpark early to take a ballpark tour. It was pretty neat and we got to see a few really neat things like giant holes in walls caused from baseballs traveling into the pressbox at a million miles an hour. We also got into the press areas, the DBacks dugout and on the field.

After that, we got some lunch at the Fridays that was actually inside the ballpark and watched some BP and warmups. The game was alright too. Matt said it was the best Phillies loss he's been to. It was a good time cause we had tons of Phillies fans around us. And because Bobby Abreu isn't around anymore, we got to heckle some shmuck Yankees fan that was sitting a few rows in front of us. Well until he got kicked out of the park for throwing a ball at the Flyin' Hawaiian. They had Rolling Rock at the park but like usual, they treated it like an import and it was $8 w/out tip. However since we were there all day, we ended up not paying parking because for the tour you pay leaving and for the game you pay going in so we completely missed getting ripped off there.

All in all it was a good time. We drove home the next day and stopped in Wickenburg which may just be the most technologically advanced, lowest population hick town in the world. You can stop at a saloon and get drunk with some yokels or go to Burger King for some free Wi-Fi. The rest of the way home was just compounds full of cults just waiting to overthrow the government... or so it seemed. I have no idea what other reason you would have for living completely alone that far away from civilization. But yeah, I can't wait for San Diego.

Update

I started looking at rings a year ago April but decided to buy a house first. Fast forward to this April. I bought a house, started looking at rings again, went home, bought one, came back, gave it to Kristin, and yes, she did say yes. It happened that fast. Some other fun facts? I've now been to Shea. Even thought it was probably colder than the Meadowlands in January, I can knock one more ballpark off my list. I want a Wii pretty bad after playing hours of it at Taylor's while I was home. I now have my Phoenix trip booked and 2 weeks from right now I'll be checking off Chase Field from my ballpark list. Tomorrow it should be 85 degrees outside and I'll be playing Wiffleball for the first time in like 10 years. If it's still hurricane season outside like it feels like it's been for the last week, Ultimate Alliance is always calling my name.

Merry Christmas.

Well I got my Christmas wish.

Back from Philadelphia

I posted about the mixes before I posted about being back from Philadelphia. I got back Monday night. I had a good time. I got there at like 7 something Friday morning and was at John's eating a steak before 9AM. I was cold outside but glorious inside. Then I went home, relaxed, napped, woke up and went to Steve's for another steak. Then I went to Kristin's family's Christmas get-together where we exchanged gifts, I got the Big Bad Levi Brown jersey you see me holding before you and then went home and went to bed. I then woke up at around noon and went to Steve's for yet another steak. So there you have it, the first 3 meals I had in Philadelphia were cheesesteaks. And I loved every minute of it.

Then later Saturday we went out to dinner for my Zeida's birthday. He turned 80.

Then Sunday the Eagles beat the Giants in most glorious fashion and made my whole weekend.

Then Monday I came home. The end.

Philadelphia

Flying back to Philadelphia tonight until Monday. No internet for me unless someone in my grandparent's neighborhood has entered the 21st century and has wireless internet I can steal. And if they're stupid and don't lock it up. So they have to be modern enough for wireless internet but not quite modern enough for wireless security. That's what I'm looking for.

And what's with commercials? Seriously, who buys a product because of a commercial? I mean I'm sure I've done it before but how often does a commercial influence you and your spending? Lets see what I bought recently where the product actually had a commercial. Talladega Nights. Let me tell you Sony Pictures, I knew I was purchasing this movie the moment I walked out of the theater. Save your money and make the Playstation 3 cheaper so that I can buy one of them. Yeah, and I don't want a PS3 just because of your commercials so quit on those commercials too, save your money once again, and drop the price of PS3 even more. Then we'll talk.

Disney Trip - Something I forgot

Something I forgot about the trip. Friday at Magic Kingdom on Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, I broke out my awesome laser tag skills, got what had to be the highest score ever and busted a cap in Taylor's eye all at the same time. Just thought that was notable.

My whole Disney trip. The longwinded version.

Right now it feels like I never left but when I got home yesterday it felt like I had been gone forever. I guess all of my PTO has been used to go back to Philadelphia so I'd leave home to go home. However this time I actually went away which was nice. The trip was great. We got there Saturday night and got the trip started on a great note; using our dining plan. This thing turned out to be the most incredible thing ever. Apparently it only cost us $60 a couple for the entire trip however our first meal came to $100. This seemed to be the pattern. We must have had at least 6 meals that came to almost $100 a couple and had to spend well over $700 on food just from the $60 meal plan. We gotta add up all the receipts to see how great it was, but it was great. After dinner we played some mini golf. It was the first time I had done that in years. Taylor won, beating up Kristin along the way, but we both beat Chris who was on his home turf and should be ashamed of himself.

The next day we hit up the Magic Kingdom and ate a Winnie the Pooh buffet breakfast. But man was it was a scorcher out there. It was pretty hard to take. I mean the temperature really escalated quickly. It got out of hand. Don't go on Stitch's Great Escape. It's nasty. To beat the heat, we headed back to the resort pool, then went to Epcot and the San Angel Inn for dinner followed by the Illuminations fireworks and laser show.

Monday was Steph's birthday. We went to Blizzard Beach. It was better than I remembered and there were some pretty good slides there. After the park we went back to the hotel, took a nap, then headed to MGM for some rides and dinner at the always fun Prime Time Cafe where our waiter made everyone feel good about their lives with his wonderfully down take on his.

Tuesday was a crazy food day. We started the day with the 'Ohana's Best Friends Breakfast with Lilo & Stitch. Awesome. Then we went to Epcot, killed that guy in like 10 hours, during which we ate lunch at the Coral Reef. That night we were tired so we chilled at the hotel.

Wednesday was.... boy this is hard to remember. I think it was a trip to Typhoon Lagoon. Don't go there if you have to choose between it and Blizzard Beach. I went to Typhoon Lagoon when I was 9 and remembered it being awesome and went to Blizzard Beach when I was 14 and remembered Typhoon Lagoon being awesomer, however I was wrong. Unless you want to spend all day in the wave pool with kids flying at you from every direction, I would hit up Blizzard Beach twice. After being disappointed by that place and quickly running out of things to do, Kristin and I hit up the Animal Kingdom for a short while and then met Steph and Taylor for dinner at the Disney's Spirit of Aloha Show which is an outdoor luau all you can eat... and drink!... feast. Unfortunately it was all you can drink Bud, but it was all still good. Ribs. Mmmmmmm. After dinner we headed over to Downtown Disney to spend a lot of money on souvenirs and to not drink because I was lucky to not be passing out from exhaustion.

Thursday... this isn't getting any easier. Oh yes, Thursday we ran to the Animal Kingdom as quick as we could to knock out the important stuff. For me that meant nothing because I apparently have female reproductive organs. After that we went back to Downtown Disney to try and ride the speed boats. Chris was going to hook us up because that's where he works but it was too damned hot to go out on the lake so we had lunch at Earl of Sandwich which I would recommend to anyone because it was cheap and really good, and then for the first time, got caught in the rain. It was pouring. But we got stuck in the best Disney store in town, World Of Disney so it gave us a chance to spend more money. Finally the rain stopped and we made it back to the hotel. I napped for like 2 hours because I was hurting, then Kristin and I ran to MGM to catch Fantasmic! which was probably the best show I saw down there.

Friday was our last day. So upsetting. We spent the whole day at the Magic Kingdom because that's how it should be done. We had an early impromptu lunch at Tony's Town Square. $100 lunches are great. This wasn't the first of the week. We spent a little more time there before getting caught in the rain a 2nd time. This time though it was actually a pain. I can't complain though, only getting screwed by the rain 1 time in Disney in August is impressive. We made it back, napped a little, then headed back to the MK for what is apparently the hardest reservation to make in Disney, Cinderella's Royal Table for dinner. I had the Lamb. It was good. We justly finished the night with the Haunted Mansion, then watched the SpectroMagic show which I would probably skip in the future and then finally the biggest fireworks spectacular of them all, Wishes Nighttime Spectacular. After that, it was time to go to sleep for the last time in Disney.

Saturday was a depressing day. So we decided not to make it that way. We ate doughnuts for breakfast and went to MGM to use up our 7th Magic Our Way day. And ate a lot of junk food. For free. Ice cream cookie sandwiches and milk shakes. After that we went home. It stunk. The end.

And yes, the trip was as exhausting as this post was. I hope I covered everything; I'm sure it didn't. But I do hope what I wrote is accurate. And I hope you didn't read the whole thing. It was for me. I probably should have told you that in the beginning. I hope there aren't a lot of typos in this. It's too long and I don't feel like checking it all that much. Don't mind me, this post took like an hour over two days to write.

Bon voyage.

So I'm leaving in less than 24 hours so I started getting ready. What did I do first? Make sure my pitchers are ok for the next 9 days of course. What else would anyone do? Wait, let me rephrase that. I did my best to set my pitchers for the next 9 days. I won't have any Internet access while I'm away. It's probably a good thing though because I could definitely use a break from Fantasy Baseball. However, that means no new Terententen for 10 days for you guys. I hope you all make it. You can all talk amongst yourselves I guess. Hopefully this isn't my last post before I go, but I wanted to give a heads up. I'll be back Saturday the 26th. Don't rush my good time folks. It'll make me angry and I'll have to punch you in the ovaries. Right in the babymaker.
