Oh well... Life goes on. Still, I liked last year's season ending phone calls a whole hell of a lot better. If last year didn't happen, I would probably be pretty devastated right now. However, 27 years as a Philadelphia sports fan has taught me very well that you can't win em all. Hell, it taught me you can't win any of em... until you do. After all the fun we had last year, I never even thought it was possible that we could go for it again. Ironically, it wasn't until we won a couple against the Yankees in NY early in the season that the thought even popped into my head. Then with all the bullpen issues we've had since then, that idea dissipated to the point where I wasn't even sure we'd win the division. So I guess this whole postseason run should probably have all been gravy. I mean winning the division 3 years in a row and winning the NL 2 years in a row would have made Spring 2007 Me question everything I thought was possible. 3 seasons ago when the Mets collapsed and we first took the division, it was hard to know what to expect. Then when they did it again, this time seemingly as a team of destiny, you knew you had something special. Now, I have a couple of 2008 World Series Champion t-shirts commemorating a team that I love, a team that plays hard every day and a team that is still in a really good position to fight for our division and league championships next year while trying to win back what is rightfully theirs, a World Series Championship. Remember this day Phillies fans. It doesn't sting nearly as much as '93. You now know anything's possible. We CAN get back and we CAN win it all. Just ask those 2007 Boston Red Sox who had a really good team and just took a couple of years off before winning their trophy back. It's now November. Pitchers and catchers report in just over 3 months. Until then, I'll leave you with your regularly scheduled programming.
And remember... we'll always be the only World Fucking Champions.

I'm still sick over the Eagles yesterday. This one's gonna sting way longer than the Dolphins shockingly wildcatting the hell out of the Patriots in week 3 last year. The Phillies beating the Dodgers 11-0 to take a 2-1 lead in the NLCS took the sting away for a few hours but I woke up this morning realizing that the suicide pool is no more and the Eagles are not very good. I suppose the further you go, the harder you fall. Gambling blows.

I just opened up my fortune cookie from dinner and it says "Your business will assume vast proportions." What does that even mean? I'm not exactly positive but it must mean something like the Raiders just beat the Eagles there goes my $12,500, I'm so glad I didn't take out that loan and already spend the money... and I'm spent. As unbelievable as it sounds, it's all completely believable and if it wasn't for this suicide pool, the Eagles completely deserved to lose that game. They played like shit up and down the field. The defense only let up 13 points but they should have never let up 13 points against that completely inept Raiders offense. I don't care if it was really one big play, they couldn't tackle the whole day and never made the big play when needed. And this Trotter signing was completely exposed. It was a horrible, horrible idea. They needed someone who could cover a receiver and they go out and get a guy who couldn't cover the worst of receivers even in his prime? And speaking of Trotter who can't even tackle anymore, I'll say it again, no one could make a tackle today. Then the offensive line was just pathetic. Peters wasn't even playing great before he went down, Dunlap isn't king of anything and I taste vomit just thinking about it. The Raiders defense is decent but Donovan should never have been sacked 6 times and hurried/hit like 95% of the downs. However, as much as I love Donovan this situation shows exactly why he was never able to become an elite QB. Top 10, top 5 at times in his career, but never elite because he cannot keep his head. It didn't cost us but he didn't know we didn't have any timeouts at the end of the first half? And I swear he lost track of downs on a very important drive in the 4th quarter which did cost us and forced a punt. Again, can't fully blame him though; Andy really earned his new upcoming 10 year contract by once again completely abandoning the run the whole game when we were only ever down by a TD. Then there were the stupid penalties thrown in and finally the thing that literally cost us the game... 2 missed field goals from David Akers. When you're in a game of field goals, you can't miss 2 of them. This game reeked of last year's Bengals tie the whole time. The Raiders showed up and played like they did in week 1 when they were beating up the Chargers the whole game except this time they didn't have to take the loss. They deserved this win if only for the fact that the Eagles sure as hell didn't. After this, they don't even deserve to fly back to Philly. If anything, I hope they're all stuck in coach next to the fat, smelly woman I was stuck next to on my flight yesterday. New suicide pool rule for next year if I decide to play again... don't take the Eagles... period!
Now that I'm done bashing the Eagles, honestly, where were the flags on the Raiders... any of them? They could do no wrong apparently. The offsides, the interferences, the blatant late hits? Never called. Why does Tom Brady get his knee grazed and get a roughing the passer call yet DeSean gets injured on a late hit out of bounds today and no flag is thrown and going back to week 1 Donovan gets a late hit in the end zone which breaks his ribs and a flag was never thrown there? Where's the non-Eagles consistency? Regardless, bye, bye suicide pool, it was fun while it lasted and I'm quite certain we wouldn't have lost another game the rest of the way out. Guess it's why they play the games. So long money. I would have loved you unconditionally and gave you a great home.
Holy crap Steelers; I'm glad we took you this week because I never want to have to take you again. That was one sad display you threw out there against the lowly Lions. C'mon, the Lions are playing decent football but you're the friggin' defending champs. Another close call where the game pretty much came down to the final drive. This was a Daunte Culpepper led offense, not Peyton Manning!!! So, so sad. You didn't deserve to win but I'm sure glad you did. Winning is fun!
I barely even paid attention to the game this week. Took the Giants at Chiefs, yada, yada, yada, game over, victory. That's how it should be. No worries, no alarms and no surprises. If every week was like this one, I'd live a lot longer. Plus somewhere along the way I'll win a few thousand dollars. Money!

Packers at Rams. Easy right? The Rams may not win a game this year and I thought the Packers should win the North fairly handily. That's before I realized the Packers were suiting up a JV O-line. We got through this one because the Packers eventually realized they were playing the Rams and started pulling away at the end. However... it was far too close for way too long and if Aaron Rodgers doesn't start getting some help soon, he's going to be in a fully body cast by the end of the year. We're talking case of the Marc Bulgers. Regardless, week 4 here I come.
This week's game was a lot less stressful than last week's Chargers scare. We took the Minnesota Vikings on the road over the Detroit Lions. I mean the Lions haven't won a game since December 2007... How the hell are they going to stop Adrian Peterson from running all over the place? He looked like a monster last week against Cleveland. It should be like Godzilla tearing through Japan. Only worse. Not even Megatron will be able to stop him. Ooooh! Who would win in a fight... Godzilla or Megatron? We will see. Roll that beautiful bean footage.
Well Megatron jumped out first giving the Lions a decent lead. The Vikings just came out flat and were actually in a 10-0 hole through most of the 2nd quarter. It didn't seem like they could get anything going. Despite that though, you never really thought they were in danger of losing the game. A better way to put it is you never really thought the Lions were capable of winning this game. And that's how it went. The Vikings didn't go all Hiroshima on the Lions however they won handily, 27-13, and we now move on to week 3. Nice.

Oh man, it only took 1 week for me to curse this year's suicide pool and swear it off forever. Last year we were out in like 3 weeks because Miami decided it wanted to bring back the wildcat when the Patriots were least expecting it. That was a terrible punch in the gut. However, this year Rob and I had a great plan and 2 weeks ago I was already waiting for this year's winnings to come my way. No way we could lose. I don't care where they're playing... the yearly "Superbowl Bound" San Diego Super Chargers cannot lose to the Oakland Raiders. The game was in Oakland but it could be on the moon and the Chargers could be down a man and they should still beat on the JaMarcus Russell led Raiders. Well we all saw that was not the case last night. The Raiders looked like they were playing for something and the Chargers looked like crap. The offense was offensive and the defense looked embarrassing. Somehow, probably just because they were supposed to, the Chargers won with 18 seconds left on the clock, and we get to play another day. But I'll tell you, I was not a happy man after Russell completed a 4th and 15 bomb for a TD to go ahead with about 2 minutes to go. Apparently the Chargers are just in a league of their own. We have the Superbowl winners like the Pats and the Steelers, the Superbowl losers like the Bills, the NFC/AFC Championship losers like the Eagles and the "Superbowl Bound but don't come close" teams like the Chargers. I'll tell you what. Unless they're playing the Cowboys, Giants or Redskins or the Eagles playoff hopes are on the line, I will never root for that sorry excuse of a football team again. You can bet on that.
What I'm listening to: Radiohead - Subterranean Homesick Alien
I'm lazy I know. I put off posting on here all the time. I constantly convince myself that whatever I'm going to post about just isn't worth it. You can tell by all the awesome gems that I'm constantly providing you with a few times a month. However as much as I tried to talk myself out of this one, I just couldn't. Last night Michael Vick signed with the Eagles. Within minutes the thing blew up all over the Internet, even making its way to the front page of CNN. You would have thought Michael Jackson died or something.
More so than big news, this is just weird news. Almost unbelievable news. At first I thought it was just some BS. I saw a tweet go by and thought there's no way that the Eagles would go out and get another quarterback. Then I thought to myself that no one could make that kind of news up. Then another tweet came by. A few minutes later there was no denying it.
I'm up in the air with this one. I keep trying to convince myself that it's another low risk/high reward signing like the Pedro Martinez signing with the Phillies. However this one can be way different. We've seen what happens to the Eagles when the media just can't leave well enough alone. Last time it happened our team was almost destroyed. This time the expectations are way less. As a starting quarterback I am not a fan of Michael Vick. The mobile quarterback was short lived and Vick couldn't cut it. However now I think we have a really good backup quarterback that can also become a great weapon on the field in other ways. I just hope that Andy can make it work and I really hope that Donovan can find something to be happy about with this because "In Donovan We Trust".
Only time will tell. So far it's all the news can talk about. I'm already longing for new Brett Favre news. There are only a few more weeks til the season starts and thank heavens because with all the preseason injuries and now this media storm, the season couldn't start soon enough.

Interesting article on this whole Phillies/Roy Halladay mess with some good points over at The Sporting Blog. Almost everyone I've heard from seems to want to make this happen. However no one I've heard from is Ruben Amaro, Jr.. Best case scenario? Halladay leads us to a couple more parades down Broad Street and Happ turns out to be a fluke and Drabek and Brown never amount to anything. Worst case scenario? Happ turns out to be a fluke and Drabek and Brown never amount to anything and Halladay leads to the Angels or BoSox to another World Series championship. Best guess is this whole situation will meet somewhere in the middle. That's the way it goes.
I say just go for it all. A proven ground ball inducing Cy Young winner who'll give you 7-8 innings a game for a couple years and take some heat off of Hamels? I'll allow it. I want to start catching up on the Yankees 26 rings now. Not risk it, take our chances this fall and then see how things turn out in a few. I'm not saying pull maneuvers like the Yankees have done more recently and deplete your whole farm system year after year... but do this now and create an outstanding front end rotation for a few years. Like it says in the article, "...what 3-man rotation would you feel better about trotting out once October rolls around? Hamels-Happ-Blanton? or Halladay-Hamels-Blanton? It's just no contest."
Oh, and it might not be too shabby seeing Halladay make his Phillies debut when I'm at the game in San Francisco this Thursday. Not too bad at all.

An article came out today regarding Baseball Mired in a Mysterious Ratings Slump. Perhaps TV attendance is down because youre showing nothing but crappy games all the time. Stop showing teams just because theyre winning at the moment. And no one cares about this worthless NL Central division that we always hear so much about. Theyre boring. Even that Cardinals team that won a few years back sucked to watch. Stop showing NL Central games all the time. Apparently no one cares. That just might go for both Central divisions for that matter. No one cares about the heart of America. Those people dont even care.
And we dont need to see every single Mets and Red Sox game. Theyre on all the time. Show teams with star power but dont go overboard. Im not a Yankees fan but they have a whole team of names that draw people Arods, CCs, Jeters. I would watch them on TV even if they werent playing the Red Sox. Theyre almost never on as much as they probably should be. No one wants to see the studs on the Brewers no matter how good they are. People want to see the champs. However only show the Phillies at night because they dont seem to like to show up on nationally televised day games.
Personally I want to see the Lincecums of the league; not the feel good story pitchers, battling poverty and drug addiction, who at the moment are pitching over their heads. I'm guessing viewers probably stopped even looking to see what was on because they just naturally assumed it's some Roy Oswalt/who ever's the ace of the Pirates these days. I started writing this before I turned on the TV but guess who's on? Cardinals at Brewers. Man, I just love that Wainwright/Suppan match-up. Click.
And maybe, just maybe, get rid of bums Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. Dont put them in more stuff. Get rid of them altogether. How on Earth did they become baseball announcers? Because they like baseball? Well I like baseball. That doesn't mean you should make me an announcer. I'm a mean person... Nevermind, I bet I'd have more fans than those 2 bums have. I would just hope not to have something like a I Hate Joe Buck Facebook group about me.
So the 2009 NFL Draft has come and gone and almost every analyst that I've heard from over the last 2 days thinks the Eagles had an absolutely wonderful draft. Most of us all went into the draft praying for some way to get Anquan Boldin but that unfortunately didn't happen. What did happen was the Eagles did things their way and after all was said and done, things don't look too shabby. They got things going days before the draft by trading their 28th overall, 1st round pick for Buffalo LT Jason Peters. This is getting overlooked as it wasn't a draft pick but it'll certainly help Donovan sleep at night knowing his blind side is protected now that Tra is gone.
Also not in the list will be the addition of Patriots CB Ellis Hobbs which the Eagles acquired by trading 2 of their 5th round picks during the 5th round. This Sheldon Brown situation is retarded because Hobbs is making more money than Sheldon which is ridiculous to think about considering Sheldon is amazing. Why are they going to pay the 5'9 Hobbs more money? Why can't they just pay Sheldon? Ugh! Let's just get down to the actual picks:
Rd.1 (19): WR Jeremy Maclin - The Eagles traded up 2 spots for this pick and although he doesn't really fit a need for this team, he's a play maker who should make things exciting. I don't think Andy will be able to sleep for months while coming up with some crazy plays to utilize Maclin alongside of our already very fast WR corps.
Rd. 2 (53): RB LeSean McCoy - He's apparently very similar to Brian Westbrook so if he focuses on blocking he should be a great asset if Westy gets dinged up. This looks way better than taking Beanie Wells in the 1st.
Rd. 5 (153): TE Cornelius Ingram - We all wanted Pettigrew, and when the Eagles traded up in the 1st, we all thought it was happening, but instead the Eagles again looked to have made a good move by waiting til the 5th round to pick up what could be a very good TE. Celek is young and we can give him more time before spending a 1st round pick on a TE.
Rd. 5 (157): CB Victor Harris - Another CB to go along with Hobbs really makes this Sheldon Brown situation look bigger than I was hoping it was. I'm not ready to see our entire 2000's secondary gone after they were such a spectacular bunch. We now have way too much depth at corner and something's gotta give. I hope the Eagles have something good planned because we can't wasted Sheldon's talent like we wasted Lito's.
Rd. 5 (159): T Fenuki Tupou - Andy sure does love O linemen.
Rd. 6 (194): WR Brandon Gibson - Even if we're lucky enough to cut Reggie Brown, we still have too many WRs now with DeSean, Curtis, Avant, Baskett and Maclin. This will be fun to watch in camp.
Rd. 7 (213): G Paul Fanaika - Yep, Andy sure does love O linemen.
Rd. 7 (230): LB Moise Fokou - LB was the last thing on the Eagles need board and they went out and got one with their last pick. It's a definite we'll see. Rashad Jennings was on the board at this time but the Eagles must be confident enough with the Leonard Weaver free agency pickup to forgo getting a big RB in the draft.
Last Wednesday I got to see Harry Kalas throw out the first pitch at the Phillies ring ceremony game. It was a great day. The Phils got their hardware, the sun was shining, Harry threw out the first pitch and 7 innings later the Phils miraculously came from behind to win in World Champion fashion. Today, unfortunately, the sun isn't shining so brightly... Our beloved announcer Harry Kalas passed away this morning at the age of 73.
Harry was about to do what he did best. He arrived at Nationals Park ready to call another game. He would have called another Phillies victory... A victory I believe he eventually willed them to.
Luckily for me I got to hear him call a few more games last week while I was back in Philly. I don't know what that next baseball game will sound like and I'm not particularly looking forward to it. However I know we'll always have that voice in the back of our heads each and every time we see another Phillies home run... "Swing...and a long drive, watch this baby, outta here! Home run Ryan Howard".
Penn State got snubbed in the NCAA tournament but they did all they could by winning the NIT Championship tonight against Baylor in MSG. The Nittany Lions are the 2009 NIT Champions. Next time invite us to the tourney. You knew what they could do and you snubbed them. Well they showed everyone they most certainly deserved a spot among the NCAA's 64 elite. Congratulations Lions.

So I've obviously been inundated with college basketball the last few days. The NCAA tournament is great all by itself but I actually went against all reasoning and decided to make it more interesting and place a few bets this year. Thursday morning started off great. First card we took LSU, Texas A&M and Purdue and hit right away. And then as quick as it started it all went south. That night we missed Gonzaga by 2 points. 2 friggin points. Then Friday went the same way. First card of the morning we missed Tennessee by 2 points. Then the late card missed Ohio State in 2 OTs and Florida State in OT each by 2 points. Those last ones stung. I just can't do the gambling thing. It's not that losing is so shitty, it's just how we always seem to lose. Always a buzzer beater or a close game... one overtime, two overtimes, rarely a blow out. A blow out I could handle. Oops, I was wrong. However, these constant close games just make it seem like bad karma or something; Like somebody wants me to just enjoy watching sports. So that's what I'm gonna do. Bring on the Sweet 16 next weekend. I'm just gonna watch it and love every minute of it with all the excitement that these games bring on their own. The dogs are gone, the good teams are left and I can't wait.
Like I've already said, it's mid March and you know what that means... yep, it's NCAA tourney time. March Madness, the most action packed few weeks of the year, is upon us. It's impossible not to get excited about college basketball this time of the year from the favorites to the dogs to that certain 5-12 matchup. We had some great conference tournaments to get us going and it should be a great NCAA tournament so get over to ESPN's Tournament Challenge and create a few brackets. If you know the password, join up with the "ABA Flint Tropics" group. It's where all of my brackets will be. Some of them have Louisville winning, some have North Carolina winning, some have some others winning, but either of the first two would be fine by me. And don't forget about America's Hottest College Girl '09. The action starts tomorrow, March 17th. Sounds like you've got a lot to do. Get to it.
Here's Jimmy Rollins having a little fun being a world effing champion. He's trying his best not to crack up while making those faces which consistently cracks me up. And then when he pats the kid on the ass after he gets destroyed by the baseball, it's just hilarious.

We all know that last Friday was a painful day for Philadelphia sports fans. The Eagles let Brian Dawkins walk after 13 years of unforgettable service. It was a tough situation and I have no hard feelings towards either side. The Eagles shouldn't have invested as much money in an aging safety as the Broncos were willing to invest and Brian Dawkins couldn't pass up that kind of pay day when he did so much to earn it. Still, the situation sucks and that's the way the sports world goes. No player lasts forever, not even our friendly neighborhood superheroes. It's pretty amazing that he managed to wear green for as long as he did. My question now is, even though Dawkins is no longer wearing green, can I still wear my Dawkins jersey during football events?
So the Cowboys released Terrell Owens last night. This is some exciting and hilarious news that's sure to completely shake up the NFL. Deep down though I don't know what to think of this whole situation. How is it going to play out for the Eagles? Are the Cowboys now a better team or a worse team without TO? Can losing one of the top 5 receivers in the league actually make Tony Romo a better quarterback, will he still be a bum or will he look even worse? Playing against TO was always a double edged sword. On the weeks when he shows up, he really shows up and it's game over for his opposition. On weeks when he self destructs it's almost a guaranteed W for the other team. Again, same thing for Tony Romo.
I liked knowing for the most part they were going to suck each week but I still never liked the thought of facing them. It's definitely the uncertainty that we don't know what kind of Cowboys team we're going to face next year. And I just had a heart attack because now I get to wonder what the Cowboys have in mind. They can't just drop their best WR without a backup plan and now they're in the market for what the Eagles are always in the market for... a WR. And unlike the Eagles, they're the team that will actually make the move. Could Anquan Boldin be in their future? That would be devastating.
On a lighter note, the non Eagles related part to this story... What's Terrell Owens going to do now? You know for a fact that someone will take a chance on him. He's too good to not play football somewhere however who's going to take a chance on him after he destroyed 3 really good franchises? I highly doubt any good team would risk it but there are tons of bottom feeders that will get a steal now. They'll sell jerseys, seats in the stands and they'll get a WR who's going to produce. When the Eagles took him after San Fran he only had 1 strike on him. Now it's 3 strikes and he's out. Rob mentioned the Patriots. Just think about that one.
UPDATE - It has been brought to my attention that the Cowboys won't have any cap room for any move regarding Boldin or probably any other good WR so we can all rejoice.
What I'm listening to: Stone Temple Pilots - Lady Picture Show
I am freaking exhausted. We just got home about 2 hours ago from today's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. We left the house around 9AM this morning so it was a pretty long day. It took about 2 hours to get to the track which wasn't a blast but once we got there it was all uphill from there. I have to say, even not being a race fan, it was really awesome. I have enjoyed watching a few races on TV here and there but never thought I'd ever go to a race. However when Kristin got a few really good free tickets, who was I to pass it up? I mean how bad could it be? Well it wasn't bad at all.
It's definitely a sensory explosion being at a race. I mean of course there's the obviousness of watching the cars fly by and you can kind of imagine how loud the engines sound when 43 of em explode out of a turn within 15 seconds of one another but you don't think too much about the smell of burning rubber and smoke as someone wrecks and you really don't think about the actual taste of burning rubber and tar? when you're getting pelted with black stuff that likes to stick to the sun-tan lotion on your face and somehow get in your teeth when you're trying to take a drink of water. That can't be healthy but hey, I like to think I trained my lungs last night when I was smoking that cigar.
Re-gard-less, the show started with the flying Elvii, moved on to the USAF Thunderbirds, which I had not seen before and were awesome, and then moved on to the race which had tons of cautions, albeit nothing major at our turn. The crowd was huge, something like 150,000 people, had some awesome mullets, some insane sun burn and really loved their Bud Light. Especially that Jeff Gordon fan 3 rows in front of us. He really loved the Bud Light and Jeff Gordon.
I really don't have a favorite driver and for some reason I was pushing for different people throughout the race however never for Jeff Gordon. That guy was incredible though. He wrecked, dropped way back, and then somehow got right back into the top 5 somehow. And he did it fast. I still don't know how he did it. I was also pushing for Jeff Burton while he was in first since we were surrounded by probably 100 CAT people and Jimmie Johnson to climb out of his huge hole until he crashed at the end. Kyle Busch ended up winning the race on his home turf which I guess was the best outcome. If I was gonna root for anyone it probably should have been one of the Busch brothers. Oh well, I'm going to bed. I gotta work tomorrow. That sucks.
I just got my copy of the new Cole Hamels Sports Illustrated. It's great to know he's signed, sealed and has already delivered. Unfortunately I won't be getting to see him pitch this April when I'm home because he'll be pitching opening day and I've only got 2 TICKETS TO THE APRIL 8TH RING CEREMONY GAME!!! I tried getting them last week however the tickets didn't officially go on sale until the 19th and they sold out well before then. I found out today that my dad was able to get a couple tickets to the game so all is well. That was definitely some great and unexpected news.
You know what else is great? The freakin Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition this year. It's definitely the first head turner in a long time. It's not really new news but I figured if I'm posting 1 SI cover, why not post what could be the greatest cover ever.
Well it's been a hell of a few weeks. 7 weeks ago the season was over. Just 3 weeks ago all I wanted for a successful season was to keep the Cowboys out of the playoffs. Just a week ago all I wanted to do was keep the Giants from repeating. Then with a Cardinals win, it all changed. In an instant it all went from a "well at least we're here" mentality to a "hey, we can and we will do this" mentality. Well to quote Seth Rogan like I so often do, "I made a mistake!".
Heart breaker. That's all this was. It describes both this NFC Championship game and this entire season. It went from the worst game I had ever watched to the best game I had ever watched to a MF'ing heart breaker just as this season went from the worst season to the best season to an MF'ing heart breaker.
If we were playing the Panthers this week I don't think this whole situation would have gotten out of hand. We could have lost that game and just moved on. We shouldn't have been here anyway. But the damn Cardinals with their phony Phoenix sports fans... and don't say they sold out in 6 minutes, they're not phony... I've been there. They're phony.
Regardless. Things to take from this game. First off, how the F did we not double cover Fitzgerald after the way he decimated the Cardinals last week and then scored 2 quick touchdowns? He marched down the field seemingly at will during the first half and that was the difference. The Cards were winning and still became one dimensional just throwing the ball to Fitz. I don't blame them. So the game was over at the half. I came to that realization and that was that. We just never showed up. But then we did. We showed up big and like I've never seen before. The defense made the stands that they needed just like they did over the last 6 weeks, the offense started clicking... DeSean's concentration catch was ridiculous and Donovan just really started putting the team on his back. But then Fitz came back, the D had no answers and Kurt Warner looked like the Superbowl winning quarterback that he is and the Eagles looked like the NFC Championship losing team that we just always seem to be. We got one major call at Arizona's expense but that doesn't make up for the countless calls the Cardinals got the entire game. That's kind of sickening. They could hold all they wanted, make contact after 5 all they wanted, pass interfere all they wanted... and we couldn't. That made a difference. Home field advantage made a difference. Apparently it made a 21 point difference than our last meeting.
I'm trying to fit this latest NFC Championship game into the grand scheme of NFC Championship losses. All I know is it's worse than the Rams loss which was probably more expected than this one. Regardless, I need to view this season as a good one considering where we were 6 weeks ago. We flat out kept both the Cowboys and the Giants from winning it all and we probably got Donovan and Dawkins back for at least one more season. DeSean will continue to grow as a receiver and should be something special next year. A lot of positives to look at. I don't know what it all means right now but I'm hoping to figure it out over the next 8 months. We got about a month shorter off season than I could have expected. That's something right? Show us out Frankie.
That's life I tell ya, I can't deny it, I thought of quitting baby, But my heart just ain't gonna buy it. And if I didn't think it was worth one single try, I'd jump right on a big bird and then I'd fly.

Hey, remember that Chase Utley play when he faked out Jason Bartlett and then threw him out at the plate? Yeah, me too. It was awesome. Happy new year!
It's just miraculous. All I wanted today was to keep the Cowboys out of the playoffs. Who knew that the Oakland Raiders would come through and knock out the Bucs, the Houston Texans would come back from being down early in their game to knock off the Bears and the Eagles would HULK smash their way past the Cowgirls by the largest margin of victory ever in an Eagles/Cowboys game. We found out right before the game that this one was going to be a playoff game but who knew it'd be like this.
The whole defense just played phenomenal. After practically 2 years, the ball finally started bouncing our way on fumbles and we had 2 huge defensive touchdowns off forced fumbles. Dawkins played out of his mind in what he knew could have been his last game in Eagles green. That's definitely on hold now.
And then the Eagles stepped up on another area that has been a weakness for us. 3 red zone touchdowns including goal line touchdowns. Amazing. Over the last 5 games, the Eagles have held their opponent to an average of 12 points. Except for last week's game in Washington, the offense has been looking good. Hopefully I can say this team is turning it on at the right time.
I didn't want to twitter during the game as I didn't want to jinx anything but I figured with a comfortable 40 point lead, I may be alright. Besides, who can pass up twittering about Tony Romo burying his tears in the dirt after one of his many pitiful turnovers. TO of course chipped in with his normal dropped passes and towards the end of the game it was lovely seeing him and Roy E. Williams sitting silent at opposite ends of a clear bench with no one else in sight. They pan up to one of the boxes and Jerry Jones was just stunned and picking his teeth. And what was even better? We didn't have to see Wade Phillips jumping his fat ass up and down like a moron.
Another good point of the game? I actually got to say that the Cowboys needed 6 touchdowns and they would still only be up by 1 point. HA! I wonder if I could get away with not shaving throughout the playoffs? I enjoyed having matching scruff with the rest of the Eagles.
A point of the game that needs to be addressed? At 7:15 left in the 4th quarter, Highway 74 and Kevin Kolb entered the game. Andy... you know as well as I know that they are not the future of this offense.
Re-gard-less. Happy holidays Eagles fans. We head to Minnesota next week. Hopefully Jimmy Johnson can conjure up something special for Tavaris Jackson and we can get Purple Jesus to put the ball on the ground. It won't be easy, I'd much rather be going to Arizona, but it's definitely doable. We're as hot as any team in the league right now and, hey, we're in the playoffs... anything can happen. Let's do this. E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Happy Thanksgiving everybody. I know it's almost over but it's been a hell of a day and definitely ended on a great note. Definitely a Thanksgiving to remember. I'm stuffed to the gill on double doses of turkey, mac n' cheese, stuffing, biscuits, assorted pies and deserts and Rolling Rock. I can barely move and I may never eat again (today). However, this Thanksgiving was a little different than the rest. Sure I didn't get to go to Main Street Station's buffet and I sure as hell wasn't in the Bahamas this year but I did get blessed with an Eagles victory this Thanksgiving that I don't think we'll ever forget. 4 days ago I was miserable and was certainly not looking forward to this game against a top NFC team. Today we still don't have any hope but it's still a team I love led by my quarterback, Donovan McNabb. I'm not gonna get into all the garbage I've had to put up with over the last few days. No. Instead I'm just gonna give us something that we haven't seen in quite some time. The postgame Donovan McNabb that even the bitterest of Eagles fans can't hate. Donovan at his best. He sure as hell played like it tonight and as always, it shows.
Because I noticed the previous Chase Utley video had been pulled off the Internet and because who doesn't need to be reminded that the Phillies are the best baseball team in all of the land. Once again, enjoy.
It took me 2 days to even start writing up this post and probably 3 days to finish it. I still haven't come down from my cloud enough to really express all of the thoughts that have gone through my mind in the last few days. I mean so much stuff has happened from the victory to the celebration to the TV appearances and the parade I never thought would happen. But it all happened. It was all real. And I don't need to wake up. I have one final picture of a victory pile to splash on this page. The World Series Victory Pile.
A month ago on September 27th, the Phils clinched the NL East and Matt said to me, "Only 11 more". It sounded so crazy at the time. I mean the Phils had just climbed out of a 3 game hole to take the division and this team did feel special, but c'mon, it's the Phillies... from Philadelphia. But they did it.
They played amazing down the stretch, 24 for 30 to end the year including 11 and 3 in the playoffs. The games were almost always nail biters but only losing once per series kept it semi comfortable. Game 1 they jumped on top and game 2, well fortunately I was flying to Philadelphia that night and missed the entire thing. But game 3 was crazy with hours of rain delay to start the game, then the game coming down to a walk off 30 foot crappy base hit from Ruiz that scored Bruntlett in the wee hours of the morning. Then game 4, the Phils unleashed the beast. Howard hit a couple dingers, Blanton pitched the best game of his career and even hit a monster shot himself. Just unbelievable. It was all so unbelievable that everyone cashed in on all the fun. The long weekend I was home witnessed 2 Flyers victories, a Penn State victory and an Eagles victory. 6-0 for the trip.
Everything was unbelievable until some supernatural forces completely destroyed all of our hopes in the 3 day game 5. I mean of course everything was going right so something had to completely go wrong, turn the series around and give it to the Rays. That seemed inevitable seeing as how Joe Buck and Tim McCarver sucked so bad, I'll hate them forever and their complete and utter bias was simply trying to will the Rays to victory. I hate them, I hate them, I hate them. McCarver, did you forget you spent many years in Philadelphia not only playing but getting your start as a broadcaster? You should be ashamed. Dealing with those 2 every night was complete torture. I could spend forever talking about how much I hate them.
But it's all over now. I've gotten to watch the last baseball game of the season and see the Phillies win it. I've celebrated in a way I've never been able to before. Just the thought of popping open champagne after game 4 was making me ecstatic and when we finally did drink champagne 3 days later it was the most delicious champagne ever created.
You know, waiting an entire lifetime for a championship was extremely, unnecessarily, painful however I think it definitely made this victory all that much more incredible. Year after year you see so many people eating up that steak stuff but you can't have any part of it. Well you know what? Steak is delicious and really appreciating the steak makes it that much better. Right now, Boston and New York don't have anything on me. I have the shirt to prove it.

I didn't want to make another post after that last one. I wanted that image to greet me every day. 10 days later and I have a new image to replace it. The Philadelphia Phillies are the 2008 National League Champions. For the 3rd time in my life, the 2nd time that I've seen, the Phillies have won the pennant. I don't get this feeling very often so I gotta drink it up.
The Phils beat the Dodgers 4 games to 1 and Cole Hamels was the NLCS MVP. However it was a total team effort and every inning had a new hero. There were so many great moments in this series. Game 1, Chase and Burrell's dingers in the 6th, Game 2, Brett Myers going 3-3 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs, Game 3, the 4 run 8th with Shane's 2 run dinger making it even and the now infamous Matt Stairs 2 run go ahead shot and now Game 5, JRoll's leadoff shot, another great Cole performance and Furcal's 3 error 5th.
Now we wait until Wednesday when we go to either Tampa Bay or Boston. Either way, Cole should be starting so it's definitely exciting. For a team that everyone was writing off in late August and September and no one thought would beat the Dodgers, man, this is great. Man, this is great.
4 weeks ago I don't think anyone would have thought that on Sunday, October 5th, it would be the Phillies whose season was going strong and the Eagles whose season was as good as done however that's how it looks right now. The Phils came through today, winning their NLDS series in 4 and now host the Dodgers starting Thursday. That's awesome. I should have stayed home today and watched the Phils close out their series instead of going out to watch the Eagles look like the Eagles.
They looked horrible for a 2nd week in a row; this time to an NFC East opponent, this time at home. With their record now at 2-3 the Eagles have to travel to the 49ers who are 2-2 and have looked semi-decent. I'm just disgusted.
I don't usually call for Andy's head but these last 2 weeks were horrible. It might not be him calling the plays, I guess everyone on that staff needs to be held accountable for what has happened these last 2 games, but something has to happen. Last week the Eagles couldn't get 1 yard when they needed it in a goal line situation and today they couldn't get it done again in practically the same situation. Run, run, run, nothing. Without Shawn Andrews your line is obviously in bad shape. You run every down in that situation but throw every down from anywhere else on the field even though you're winning or only down by 2. And you started the game mixing it up really well today and it worked. Imagine that.
And what the F was that timeout call at the end of the half? You had two 3 and outs, the Redskins were moving the football the last few drives and you give them life at the end of the half like you do for every team, every week. Then they turn it into 3 and go into the half down by only 5. I don't know whose call that was but it smells like Andy's horrible clock management to me.
Normally being 2-3 in week 5 wouldn't be a season breaker but I'm afraid it may be now. The Giants are 4-0 with 2 more really easy games to play, the Cowboys should be 4-1 after today with 2 cake games coming up and the Redskins are now 4-1 with 3 easy games on the way. That means that in 4 weeks, if the Eagles can somehow manage to handle their 3 semi-easy opponents around their bye week, they're only 5-3 and still in a pretty tough hole. It's far from impossible but for a team that hasn't shown ANY consistency from anywhere on the field, it just may be. The offense is sporadic as usual, the run D is hot and cold, the pass D is hot and cold, the special teams is again less than stellar. Even Desean's punt return today probably should have been negated by a block in the back that didn't affect the play but was a block in the back nonetheless. 203 rushing yards today, 200 passing yards for 3 TDs last week and 312 passing yards for 3 TDs in week 2 against Dallas. That's what we gave up in our 3 losses. In 5 games.
So like every other season, here we are again looking for miracles, spending week in and week out talking ourselves into how the Eagles can come back and win. We could barely muster anything when the division was weak. Now that our division is incredible, it seems even less likely. Sure, anything can happen. The Cowgirls, Vagiants and Deadskins will probably lose a game or two that they shouldn't but there's just no more room for error for the Eagles with a lot of football left to play. I don't think I'll be talking myself into any miraculous comebacks this year.

Good, uplifting article on last night's disappointing Eagles loss written by Stephen A. Smith. Despite loss, Eagles show they are a force in the NFC East. I like the article because it's mostly everything I've been saying since watching that game. I still don't understand why I don't work for ESPN.
It was at least 4-5 months ago when I started getting excited for the Olympics but so much else was happening this Summer, like the wedding and honeymoon, that it really turned into a Summer of anticipation. But July came and went and with it the wedding and honeymoon. It was okay. I only waited over a year for those things; and I had the Olympics to look forward to a few weeks afterward anyway.
2 weeks ago, the Olympics finally started. I watched so much Olympic coverage the last 2 weeks and I still couldn't get enough. Swimming definitely consumed me, as well as the rest of the world, for the first week but there was so much other great stuff to watch around Michael Phelps. Regardless, today is the last day of the Olympics on TV. They're showing everything that happened yesterday because, as I've come to live with, nothing's ever live. Except for the Men's Basketball gold medal game. I was actually able to watch that live last night at 11:30PM. Great game.
By the way. As I'm typing this, women's group rhythmic jumprope? gymnastics is on. When on Earth did this become a sport? I looked it up, it's called Five Ropes. Never heard of it. Wait, what the hell is this? Now they've replaced ropes with hula hoops? It's called Three Hoops + Two Clubs. They give out gold medals for this crap? People in China live off of rice and they're wasting precious medals on 5 girls that can throw hula hoops around a mat?
Anyway, now I guess the Summer is officially over. The closing ceremony will be on tonight, kids are back in school tomorrow, traffic is bad again in the morning and TV shows will be starting up in a few weeks. And I think there's some election coming up soon for some government role. I had more to write about here but that rhythmic gymnastics stuff really hurt my head and I can't think of what I was going to say. I guess I'll leave on that note. Only 2 more years til Vancouver. Then we get to watch curling on Tuesday at 3:18AM. Hey, at least it'll be live, right?

Ok, maybe I spoke too soon and jinxed our team. They got handled last night from swimming to gymnastics to everything else. Wasn't a great night. Maybe Michael Phelps is just our life force and with him not going for any medals, our team just gave up hope. Not a good showing.
Alright, I've been practically watching nothing but the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing since the Friday night opening ceremony. I love the Olympics. Can't get enough of them. I've always been fascinated by the spectacle that is the Olympic games, be it Summer or Winter. However I just made a Twitter regarding the diving events and the way it's been turning out for the American divers that goes something like this,
"I swear, the Olympic diving judges are Communist loving America haters. I wouldn't let them into the country ever. That's just my opinion."
It was right after I made that statement when I realized that it doesn't just seem to hold true to only diving. We're also getting hosed in the gymnastic competitions that are held up to the judges scores. Completely hosed. Maybe I don't know enough about anything regarding to diving or gymnastics, but I do know that the scores just don't seem to be fair. When 2 teams both do a crappy dive, the scores should be about the same and when 2 teams do something good, the scores should be about the same. It just doesn't seem to work like that this year.
It could be because I'm a whiny American, but if you agree with that, you're probably a Communist and should either leave America or not be allowed in. The only events the Americans are winning at the moment are the timed events and the other events where we physically beat down opponents. And in those events, we're not just winning, we're physically beating down opponents. It's great. But something just doesn't seem right here with the way judges are scoring us. I don't like them. They should care about my opinion, take it into consideration and just do it... whatever it may be. And it in this case, it, is give us justified higher scores.

Interesting stuff going on today. The Flyers pulled out a miracle and didn't blow the series against the Caps. I mean they almost Philadelphia'd it up. Going from 3-1 to 3-3, Washington, game 7, overtime, 9 seconds left in a power play. Ugh. I had just given up on them and then BLAM! they put it in the back of the net. Amazing. Time to go to Montreal.
And then, the Phils are down in the 9th and put up 3 runs by the bat of Pat Burrell. I can get the hang of this Pat Burrell thing. Like Matt said after the hit, Burrell deserves every penny he's made so far this year. Maybe. Just keep it up. With him going and Utley continuing his MVP season, once Howard picks it up, things might get pretty interesting and exciting in Philadelphia this year.
BTW, nothing much going on around here lately other than sports as you can see.
To what do I owe this honor? The Cubs at Phillies game is on TBS HD at 10:30AM and the Flyers at Capitols game is on NBC HD at 11:00AM. Two Philadelphia games on at the same time and both on HD. The future is looking bright. Or something like that. Because now they just gotta win.

So I decided I wanted a Wii for Christmas right about Thanksgiving but then I went away for Thanksgiving and yeah, it was just a bad time. So 2 weeks ago, Kristin went to Best Buy at like 7:30AM when it opened at 10:00AM but was too far back in the line. They had a minimum of 18 but ended up having 23. The last person who got one got there at like 6:30AM. So last weekend she went at like 6:00AM or something but it turns out they weren't selling Wiis last weekend; they were holding them all for this weekend. Yay.
So yesterday I check the ad and they have a minimum of 21. Last night I go to Best Buy and talk to a guy. He says get there by 4:00AM. I think the man's crazy, but alright, I want one and what else am I doing at 4:00AM on Sunday so I say what the hell. They open at 8:00AM now anyway. I woke up at 3:45AM and got there by 4:15AM. I didn't get a Wii this morning. I was like 52 in line. The guy 2 in front of me was there at 3:20AM and didn't get one. Probably the 12 or so people in front of him who got there before 3:30AM didn't get one. They had 70 but were only giving out 27. I guess they were holding the rest for next weekend. When youll probably have to line up Friday night and stand there for 2 days to get one. To say the least, I won't be having a Wii under the Christmas tree.
It's pretty assanign that you could wait probably 5-6 hours in 30 degree temperatures and not get a Wii, that is in the store, just so Best Buy can tell people that they're gonna have 50 of them the Sunday before Christmas. A sale is a sale. This my friends is why I hate Best Buy.
In lighter news, Matt got a Rock Band. I think that's what I'll be doing until I get a Wii. I can't complain.
And the Eagles won their Superbowl this afternoon, beating the Cowboys and injuring a lot of them. It was a great game and it pretty much defines the season of what could have been if we had gotten some breaks. Tony Romo had a career-low QB rating of 22.2, bumb-ass Terrance Newman played like Terrance Newman and Roy Williams, of course, played crappy while Roy Williamsing Donovan. When will the NFL do something a little more severe to this man who continues getting fines for committing the Roy Williams tackle??? He obviously doesn't care about the fines.

About 10 minutes ago, the journey finally ended and Barry Bonds hit his 756th career home run, finally surpassing Hank Aaron as baseball's all time home run champion. It came in the bottom of the 5th inning off of the Washington National's Mike Bacsik. Ball 1 up and away, ball 2 down low, strike 1 down the middle, strike 2 fouled away, ball 3 down and away, then another pitch fouled away and finally a 3-2 pitch muscled to center field.
When Barry passed Ruth, I was certainly not happy. However last season I finally came to terms with the fact that absolutely nothing was stopping Barry from passing Aaron; he was on a mission. So I came to terms with it. I accepted it. I'm a lifelong baseball fan and something big and exciting just happened in baseball. I didn't leave after the strike and I'm not going anywhere after... or during... steroids. The all time home run records is the most hallowed record in all of sports and whether we like Barry or not, Barry's hit a lot of home runs.
I'm really not sure what bothered me so much about this anyway. Ruth has always been my home run king and he wasn't even the king when I was born. Not even close. It's probably that I just don't like change. It took me a while but I'm finally ready to give this record to Bonds. Records are meant to be broken and this one's broken folks. We've had many different generations of baseball and there will always be tons of speculation about not only steroids, but lengthened seasons, segregation, park sizes, missed time due to wars, the talent pool, yadda, yadda, yadda. The one thing we can't argue about though is the fact that 756 is larger than 755. That's it.

When Sheldon steps up in the place ay yo he steps correct! This picture is freaking amazing. I mean simply extraordinary. I knew the hit was brutal. I watched it many times. I couldn't get enough of it. It's like the Tony Romo fumble. And it's really all I had good to take from that game. But man, oh man, look at that smash. I mean Brown certainly went to the Dawkins school of owning someone's life to learn how to hit like that. And this article exerpt that accompanies the picture isn't bad either. It got me insanely pumped up for football season which is almost a month away. Can you dig it? Suckah!!!
So where were we. Saturday night and we're back at the hotel and drinking. And from what you can already read into from Matt's comment in SD Part 1, we ran into a little unexpected, unfriendly bastard, known as last call. Now some of you may be familiar with this "last call", but after living in Vegas for 3 years, I have come to know last call as "whenever the hell I feel like going to bed"; not freaking 1:30AM and out the door by 2AM. I mean the party was just getting started and here they are ringing a damn bell and kicking us out because they want to go home. What a bunch of crap. It's complete BS. And then people just accept it like it's how it's supposed to be. Well it's wrong on so many levels. We were drinking at our Starhot rates, playing pool, hanging out and finally getting drunk. It's really a sin. Communism isn't even the word for it.
Something good did come from the night. ESPN was on every station in the bar and the ESPYs came on repeat and during the intro they showed Tony Romo in the greatest clip ever that never gets old and the 3 of us started cracking up and since the bar had a lot of Phillies fans in it, they looked up to see what was so funny and saw us laughing and then saw the TV and then they started cracking up. So there we all were laughing at Tony Romo's bum ass fumble the hold in the playoffs because like I've already said, it never gets old.
So after they threw us out, we went back and crashed. I thought a little bit about how funny it'd be to walk up to a polar bear and give him a cup of ice. Man, it still cracks me up. Think about it. What on Earth does he need ice for? There in lies the humor of it all. Anyway, we got up the next morning and made a run for it. The worst part of the trip was now ahead of us... the long ride home. And it certainly didn't get off to a great start. We drove like a million miles and couldn't find one damn McDonalds for breakfast. California is the only place in the world with no McDonalds for like a 20 mile stretch. Or at least without signs. But hey, it could have been far worse. We were going north. Judging by the traffic on I-15S practically the entire 200 miles, they had the worst of it.
Just as we were getting home, we learned that Phils took the final game from the Padres 9-0. It was the most fitting end to a weekend I could imagine. We completely ruined Tony Gwynn weekend for all those Padres fans. Oh, and we can never forget Rob pulling doughnuts at that gas station just outside SD on Thursday night. All in all, it was one heck of a weekend. It certainly beats working for a living. Hey, and maybe after this weekend, if the Phils can win 2 for us, the panda'll start making a comeback.
San Diego was great. We left on Thursday around 6PM and got to SD around 11. Then we checked in, went to the room and... had to leave the room because they put us in a room with 1 king bed. Now I don't know what kind of stuff the guy at the desk thought was going to happen with 3 guys checking into one room but yeah, that wasn't going to work. We went back down and got another room, however this room was in the 2nd tower of the hotel; the second tower which just happened to be a 10 minute walk away. Eh, it wasn't so bad. We also got our Starhot card which got us 50% off food, drink and oh yes, alcohol for the duration of our stay. It was after 1AM before we got to sleep, but don't worry, we were only getting up at like 6AM.
So we got up early Friday morning, went to breakfast and then headed off to the zoo by 9. It was a great morning, the sun wasn't out so it wasn't hot, and it wasn't too cold. It was also early enough that all the important animals were up and about. We went right to the feeble pandas who were actually alive, eating and one was even playing with a ball. Then it was off to the polar bears, by way of the grumpy zebras, but they were freaking amazing. There was more fighting going on than a UFC event. Speaking of the next UFC event... if it's not Randy Couture versus a polar bear in the octagon, I'm not watching it. More highlights of the zoo were the crazy hippo, the lazy rhino, the elephant who pissed what had to be 5 gallons of urine and of course the Galapagos tortoises. They are the greatest animals in all of the land.
After we killed the zoo in like 5 hours, we headed back to the hotel for some drinks, some dinner and then off to the game. The game was great. Other than the fact that it was like 6 degrees below 0 and we had shorts and sandals on. I thought San Diego was 80 and sunny all year long. Anyway, Utley hit a shot to dead center field, pretty impressive in Petco, and Mr. 10,000 came back from getting roughed up by the ump to get the W. And we got to laugh all the way to the Gaslamp district.
Yes, the way too trendy Gaslamp district. Just not my cup of tea. I mean the women are gorgeous and they are everywhere but all the eye candy in the world just might not be worth it for the amount of trendiness that is going on in that place. It's more expensiveness and trendiness than any 5 cities need. We chilled down there for a while and then headed back to the hotel led by the one insane cab driver. I mean the guy is supposed to know his city in which he drives in to make his living yet he was turning the wrong way down streets and just couldn't stay in his lane. Good thing Rob was in the front seat cause I just couldn't watch.
Saturday morning we slept in and then headed to Mission Beach for a little while to get our feet wet, check it out and eat the greasiest breakfast sandwiches from Jack In The Box ever. Then we headed back to the hotel for more drinking and then off to game #2.
Once again, we took a cab. Which leads me to ask; What the hell is wrong with cab drivers? I mean this guy was definitely the 3rd craziest cab driver ever with the 1st being the guy from Friday night. What was the 2nd? The 2nd hasn't driven me anywhere yet. But the 3rd was alright until he made the most illegal move ever, making a blatant right hand turn from the left hand turn lane across a straight lane AND a right hand turn lane while we all had the green light. Insane. And he also drove most of the way on the shoulder. I think I'm changing my order to this guy as #1 and Friday night's guy as #3 with #2 still yet to be determined.
Back to the game. Now you gotta understand. Seeing a Phils win in person is more elusive than seeing a Panda bear not half dead. It certainly isn't impossible, but good luck. Rob might have had the longest wait but Matt and I have seen more losses in the last few years than we can count. Luckily I was 1-0 in Petco park before this trip and after Friday, 2-0. But we came to SD expecting to see loss 10,005 and instead we saw 2 of the best victories I've seen live. Nothing's better than being at a road win... except being at 2 straight road wins. The Phils, led by Jamie Moyersaurus, walked all over the Padres. Howard hit 2 shots and everyone pretty much joined in on the fun. Especially us doing our best to get hated on by the locals. It was just freaking great.
After the game we went right back to the hotel to start drinking.
I've been writing this post all night. I'm going to bed. I'll finish it tomorrow. And then maybe I'll proofread this long post and add zoo pictures as well.

"Not surprisingly, this defeat resembled the thousands that came before. Bad starting pitching, brutal relief and hardly any hitting. And, of course, lots of booing.... So the franchise that won only one World Series championship (1980) in 125 years, has 14 seasons of 100-plus losses, and once lost 23 straight games, now has the ugliest number of them all in a city way too familiar with losing."
And I still love my Phillies. I'm just happy that it's over now and we can hopefully start some march towards .500. Now I can't wait for Friday and Saturday in San Diego.

Just a heads up. The Phils are losing right now 6-2 to the Cards. If they lose today, it will be their 9991st loss I believe. Matt, Rob and myself are going to San Deigo to see the Phils play 2 games in July, about 22 games away from now. At the rate they've been losing, a little less than every other game, there's a pretty good chance that loss is gonna happen when we're there; Because everyone knows the Phillies lose when Matt and I go to see them. Just for the hell of it, maybe Ryan Madson can get the start that day. Just a thought.
There's another milestone about to be reached. Most of us new it was coming, much sooner than we had hoped, but it's already making national news apparently. I was hoping for it to just pop up on ESPN one day however the NY Times has put an article up months ahead of schedule. They probably think they figured something out that most people don't know. And I bet most don't know it. Just most of us lifelong Phillies fans. Milestone Marks What Phillies Fans Already Knew. Well it's coming, sometime this year, in a not too distant game from right now. And Celebrate 10,000 is up and counting down to the woeful day. It's not something I'm particularly proud of however it is something to be known. And yes, I do want a cookie. And some of that steak I was talking about.

You can't miss steak if you've never eaten steak, right?
Seriously??? Thats like saying all those starving kids in Africa have it great. Well guess what. Being 25 and being born and raised in Philadelphia, Im starving! Ive been watching all you people eat steak for so damn long, I want some steak too. Im tired of eating brussel sprouts every winter, spring, summer and fall. I was 1 when the Sixers won and Ive gotten nothing from any other team since. I dont remember what steak tastes like and it feels like the butchers going to be closed in Philadelphia for quite some time in every sport. Youve had steak in 01, 03, and twice in 04. Quit acting like a pig.
Sent to Bill Simmons in response to his latest article Welcome to the next decade of discontent. More specifically his completely disturbing 14th paragraph regarding steak.
I started looking at rings a year ago April but decided to buy a house first. Fast forward to this April. I bought a house, started looking at rings again, went home, bought one, came back, gave it to Kristin, and yes, she did say yes. It happened that fast. Some other fun facts? I've now been to Shea. Even thought it was probably colder than the Meadowlands in January, I can knock one more ballpark off my list. I want a Wii pretty bad after playing hours of it at Taylor's while I was home. I now have my Phoenix trip booked and 2 weeks from right now I'll be checking off Chase Field from my ballpark list. Tomorrow it should be 85 degrees outside and I'll be playing Wiffleball for the first time in like 10 years. If it's still hurricane season outside like it feels like it's been for the last week, Ultimate Alliance is always calling my name.
I haven't posted in a while. Why not? Because I spend like every waking moment thinking about baseball. I spend all day between ESPN.com, Phillies.com and CNN.com (I gotta break it up a little). I wake up and then it starts. When's the draft? So I look it up. Sweet. So I read some baseball news to see what's going on. A few hours later... when's the draft? And the cycle repeats itself. I do throw in some NFL news because for some reason ESPN will not let us forget that the NFL is in fact still in existance between the constant front page coverage and NFL Live which is still on a month after the season is over.
Anyway, you may be thinking that I need to calm down about the draft, it'll get here when it gets here. However I can't help thinking that I have a horrible memory problem and should most certainly remember when the draft is after about the hundreth time of looking. Good thing is though, I'm starting to come around. As I read more and more baseball news, and as it gets closer to the season, it's getting much easier to remember how quickly everything is coming up. Plus we now have 9 people in the league and are only waiting for 1 more person to join.
A little over 18 days and 10 hours to go for the draft and then only like 7 more days after that until the season starts. Then we'll have baseball on TV for like 2 weeks before ESPN pulls it again for retarded programming that no one wants to watch and I get angry but can do nothing so I'm stuck watching Stat Tracker at all times to get baseball updates. That's how it goes I guess.
On November, 19th after a devastating loss to the Titans where we lost Donovan, I said the season was over and our Superbowl was now on Christmas day against the Cowboys. It's 2 months later and we got that Superbowl victory and much, much more. A sweep of the Cowboys, an unheard of 3 game road win streak against divisional opponents in the midst of a 6 game win streak where we somehow won the NFC East AND a wild card playoff game. This loss sure is painful, but I really couldn't have asked for any more than this Eagles team gave us. It was a great run, filled with a lot of hope, but we knew the real Superbowl was just a dream and it was finally time to wake up.
Read more when "Why Was I Even Born - The Life and Times of a Philadelphia Sports Fan" hits shelves sometime in the future. I don't know when, but sometime in the future.
Looks like it's another case of the next years. We'll have Donovan back with a lot to prove, a more balanced offense, almost all of our core players back; it should be a season to remember. Now it's time to wash my Dawkins jersey.
First Tony Romo sucks it up and the Cowgirls lose their playoff game. I've created the perfect collage of it all.
Then the Eagles beat the Giants and move to the next round of the playoffs while at the same time ending Tiki Barber's career.
Finally Ohio St. loses the bowl no one though they could lose... got trounced 41-14 more like it. It's hard finding pictures of sulking players after a loss but Troy Smith went 4-14 with a pick and Ohio St. was never in the game after the initial kickoff return. It was great. I was looking forward to it all day and Florida didn't disappoint.
8:00AM football games are certainly not fun. 20-10 Penn State victories are much better. I didn't get up at 8AM for this game, but I did get up at 9:30. It was 3-3 and I felt good about the game. I turned it on and we instantly started moving the ball, eventually going 92 yards for a TD. It was just a good game all around and we got our 2nd bowl victory in 2 years. Sure it's not a BCS bowl victory like last year, and it didn't get tons of coverage, but that'll be back again next year. I can't wait.

I posted about the mixes before I posted about being back from Philadelphia. I got back Monday night. I had a good time. I got there at like 7 something Friday morning and was at John's eating a steak before 9AM. I was cold outside but glorious inside. Then I went home, relaxed, napped, woke up and went to Steve's for another steak. Then I went to Kristin's family's Christmas get-together where we exchanged gifts, I got the Big Bad Levi Brown jersey you see me holding before you and then went home and went to bed. I then woke up at around noon and went to Steve's for yet another steak. So there you have it, the first 3 meals I had in Philadelphia were cheesesteaks. And I loved every minute of it.
Then later Saturday we went out to dinner for my Zeida's birthday. He turned 80.
Then Sunday the Eagles beat the Giants in most glorious fashion and made my whole weekend.
Yesterday was one of the worst days I can remember. Well at least it was one of the worst sports days ever. But not all bad came from this weekend. Chris Robinson filed for divorce from Kate Hudson Friday after six years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. She's single! What is that you say? Who cares? None of us have any shot at her? Well I think I have as much chance at nailing Kate Hudson as I do actually getting something out of Philadelphia sports teams. And I put a whole lot more effort into caring about them. So maybe if we start focusing our attention on Kate Hudson instead of sports, we may just be a little bit happier. Sounds like a better way to live to me.
Here's something sports related that certainly doesn't belong on the message boards. To die for? MLB fans can take team devotion to grave. I don't know what to think of this, other than it's insanity. When I first saw it, I put myself in... that person's shoes? and it's pretty sad. I mean there's sports and then there's "I've died and never even seen the Phillies win anything". The same would go for any Philadelphia team for that matter. Even if any team won this year, I still wouldn't want a sports team on my urn or casket. I mean even if you did decide to go away from the traditional route of funeral products, wouldn't you want to go for something a little deeper? I don't know what, all I can think of right now is plain wood, but there'd have to be something better than this.
Oh man it was and I'm sure everyone with me will agree. That was now like 75% of Terententen readership. I may as well not even post this. Alright, you talked me into it. So we go to our normal Eagles bar to watch the game this morning. We even left early hoping there'd be tailgating since it was a 1PM game and they had it for the last 1PM game. So Rob gets there first, calls me and says that the place is swarming with bikers and there's a line of them out the door and we're SOL.
So crap. Now I'm like 2 blocks away myself, I have no Internet to find other Eagles bars and just plain crap. We call Matt's sister to go to the Eagles message board and find the thread that talks about some Eagles bars. So she goes, but she can't get in without joining and guess what... you need to wait for the admin's authorization to get in. Crap. Then I don't remember my info to give her because I just keep mine stored in my browser.
So we decide to go to the closest Timbers bar which is a Colts bar a few minutes away. However when we get there we see they have a crappy TV situation so we are definitely leaving. But to where? We want another Eagles bar so it'll be more fun. Otherwise we could have just stayed home and watched it on Fox. Yeah, we didn't even remember that until we were on our way to the next bar though. So Kristin calls her cousin hoping he has a message board membership and he doesn't. But luckily Rob remembered his info so he logged in with that. But then he couldn't search for the thread. But we finally figured that out. Buffalo Wild Wings at St. Rose and Eastern. Let's go. Where is it?
Well we had a general idea of where it was so we start driving. I'm flying down 215 into uncharted 215 territory. Kristin calls someone who lives in the area and we get better directions. We're all set. We get there in no time and are seated before the game
Ahhh yes, the game. They win in genuine Eagles fashion. No details but they win the tightest 14 point game ever and all the Eagles fans in the bar go nuts. Matt has some laughs at the expense of the Cowboys fans talking some smack during the game. It was the most stressful good time ever.

Oh man, a 5 hour +, 14 inning Phillies game will really take your mind off things. And it's definitely good when they pull it out. Work doesn't seem so bad right now.
And just who was that guy they showed every 2 minutes? He's pretty famous. Someone should find him on My Space.
For the 2nd year in a row, Terententen brings you the most hallowed analytical information in the entire world of sports, TerenTenTen's... NFL 2006 Expert Picks. I'm not exactly sure how well we did last year compared to the experts, however I am sure it was better if not only for the reason that they're retards who I don't even think watch football. Once again, enjoy the season.
I can practically count the days til the draft and football season start on my hands. I can hardly contain myself. Every day is longer and every thought is turning to football. That means SportsTalk should be back in hardcore action. It also means it's time for the NFL 2006 Expert Picks. You all got a week. 7 days. Figure em out and post them in this comment box. Next Monday I'm puttin it together. BREAK!

I feel sick. 'Baseball Tonight' analyst Reynolds no longer at ESPN. Him, Karl Ravech and Krukers are Baseball Tonight. It happened Sunday apparently, broke tonight, and it's already on Wikipedia. That's kind of impressive, but c'mon, if he was fired for sexual harrassment I'm gonna be pretty ticked off at ESPN. I mean we know a woman's role in the sports world is to be sexually harrassed by men. Joe Namath says so.
Ladies... you know I'm clownin.
Tim knows I'm not.
What BS.
Poolage is the most extreme water sport ever. Even though I highly doubt that statement, at the moment I cannot disagree with it. I may sound like I'm contradicting myself but quite frankly my head hurts. And I'm sure Rob's ribs don't feel too good either.
