After 50 years, Bob Barker to say goodbye to TV. Who’s up for a trip to L.A. before June? We’ll pack some grilled cheese sandwiches and hit the road. Ro ads. Roooooods.

This weekend I went to see The Departed. I was originally going to wait until HBO to see this movie however I had a free movie ticket that expired this week and I didn’t want to waste it. This isn’t my normal type of movie, I normally gravitate towards comedies and lighter films, however I always seem to like movies like these once I watch them. I’ve never been too big of a DiCaprio fan although I did like his last 2 movies. He was alright in this one but there’s just something about him I don’t like. The story was pretty good though. And the whole cast was massive. DiCaprio, Damon, Nicholson, Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Alec Baldwin… fantastic. Mark Wahlberg is like a mini Matt Damon and he was awesome in his small supporting role. (Yeah, this was definitely back to back Wahlberg movies for me.) I’m just glad that I work a boring I.T. life and didn’t join the mob to infiltrate the police force or become an undercover cop to infiltrate the mob. But this movie had me on the edge of my seat for a while… or maybe it was my groin… nonono, I was enthralled after about 30 minutes and the final 2 hours flew by like I don’t know what happened. Only I do know what happened and although the ending wasn’t completely happy, I guess it worked out like it should have.

To get ready for Halloween, and because my mother has been bugging me, Kristin and I carved a pumpkin ala 2003’s Edward Scissorhands that some of you may remember. Once again, we got them from Ryan over at Goatee Style at his dedicated Halloween pumpkin site, Zombie Pumpkins. It truly is an amazing site. This pumpkin, named Dementia the Clown, took about an hour and a half from start to finish and it turned out awesome I think. I just hope it makes it alright to Halloween.

Got a show everyone should watch. I watched half last night and half tonight and it’s painfull but fun TV. Throwdown with Bobby Flay on the Food Network did an episode where he competed against Tony Luke’s in making a better cheesesteak. I know most of you have been to Tony Luke’s now so it may be more interesting to you. Tony Luke’s used to be my favorite until John’s so I definitely had to be rooting for them. If it was Bobby against Geno’s though, I’d been rooting for Bobby all the way. Those crappy cheeseteak places need to be exposed. You guys should try to catch it, it’ll be on again on 10/22 at 4:00 PM, 10/22 at 11:00 PM and on 10/23 at 2:00 AM. Tivo it. I did and I’ll watch it again to drive myself nuts.

I just got done watching the last 4 episodes of Nip/Tuck. It was a lot of Nip/Tuck and I struggled a little bit, but the season is getting much better. It was very Sean’s new baby and Sean messing up heavy in the beginning which I didn’t like, but everything has seemed to work itself out. Next week’s looks like it’s getting back to that though so I’m not sure if I’ll be too happy. But the 4 hours went by pretty quick and some crazy stuff happened which is why we watch the show to begin with. Oh, and Kimber was around and wearing lingerie which is also why we watch the show. Yeah, definitely.

Here’s something sports related that certainly doesn’t belong on the message boards. To die for? MLB fans can take team devotion to grave. I don’t know what to think of this, other than it’s insanity. When I first saw it, I put myself in… that person’s shoes? and it’s pretty sad. I mean there’s sports and then there’s “I’ve died and never even seen the Phillies win anything”. The same would go for any Philadelphia team for that matter. Even if any team won this year, I still wouldn’t want a sports team on my urn or casket. I mean even if you did decide to go away from the traditional route of funeral products, wouldn’t you want to go for something a little deeper? I don’t know what, all I can think of right now is plain wood, but there’d have to be something better than this.

Yo! Philly cheesesteak wars sizzle again. I think everyone who reads Terententen knows how to handle this situation. Go to John’s Roast Pork instead. These guys are fighting over a name, a silly little title, when then should be fighting John’s for making the best sandwich in the world. Who cares if you’re the grandson of the steak sandwich inventor; I mean I don’t care who invented the TV all I know is I’m buying a Sony.

Oh man it was and I’m sure everyone with me will agree. That was now like 75% of Terententen readership. I may as well not even post this. Alright, you talked me into it. So we go to our normal Eagles bar to watch the game this morning. We even left early hoping there’d be tailgating since it was a 1PM game and they had it for the last 1PM game. So Rob gets there first, calls me and says that the place is swarming with bikers and there’s a line of them out the door and we’re SOL.
So crap. Now I’m like 2 blocks away myself, I have no Internet to find other Eagles bars and just plain crap. We call Matt’s sister to go to the Eagles message board and find the thread that talks about some Eagles bars. So she goes, but she can’t get in without joining and guess what… you need to wait for the admin’s authorization to get in. Crap. Then I don’t remember my info to give her because I just keep mine stored in my browser.
So we decide to go to the closest Timbers bar which is a Colts bar a few minutes away. However when we get there we see they have a crappy TV situation so we are definitely leaving. But to where? We want another Eagles bar so it’ll be more fun. Otherwise we could have just stayed home and watched it on Fox. Yeah, we didn’t even remember that until we were on our way to the next bar though. So Kristin calls her cousin hoping he has a message board membership and he doesn’t. But luckily Rob remembered his info so he logged in with that. But then he couldn’t search for the thread. But we finally figured that out. Buffalo Wild Wings at St. Rose and Eastern. Let’s go. Where is it?
Well we had a general idea of where it was so we start driving. I’m flying down 215 into uncharted 215 territory. Kristin calls someone who lives in the area and we get better directions. We’re all set. We get there in no time and are seated before the game
Ahhh yes, the game. They win in genuine Eagles fashion. No details but they win the tightest 14 point game ever and all the Eagles fans in the bar go nuts. Matt has some laughs at the expense of the Cowboys fans talking some smack during the game. It was the most stressful good time ever.

It’s over and the 2006 Galapagos Tortoises have proven themselves to be far superior to any weak animals including pesky pandas and winning the Brian Fellow’s Safari Planet league. This also signals the greatness of the _thesunking_ Yahoo! Fantasy Baseball Dynasty. Champions in 03, 05 and now 06. It wasn’t easy; I took the lead somewhere around week 3 and kept it for like 18 weeks but during the final 4 of them I certainly felt the heat. Then after the collapse during the final month, I thought I was all but done and I was gonna turn out like the 1964 Phillies.
However, I kept hanging in there. Chris Tom was laughing at me 2 weeks ago but who’s laughing now. 3rd place… hah! I even toppled over him during the final month in his other league and pulled off 3rd place there. Back to the important stuff… Tim almost pulled it off… I was scared… we went into the final weekend tied up… but in the end my team pulled it off.
I’ll have to give MVP honors to David Ortiz who finished 7th and kept me rolling during the tough summer months but certainly co-MVP to Matt Holliday who went above and beyond going 2nd over the last month and finished 9th overall keeping me alive in the end. My Cy Young award goes to Roy Oswalt who went 15-8 with a 2.98 ERA, 5-0 over the last month with a 1.85 ERA. I had some over achievers but mostly under achievers and still pulled it off. It’s the only thing that kept me going. Completing my dynasty.
I’d like to thank my mom, my dad, Kristin who sat by me during my pre-draft planning, my draft and throughout the tumultuous year, everyone who stood by me through the ups and downs, not Rob who focused his efforts on stealing as many points from me as possible at the end so that he wouldn’t come in last place, anyone I might be forgetting here and especially the wonderful power of the Galapagos Tortoise who willed me to the championship. I couldn’t have done it without you.
