It may be blasphemous to say something like this but I think I’m about to give up on the Office. Now I know I got a lot of Office fans as my readers but can anyone tell me the last time the show was funny? When’s the last time it made you really laugh? Whens the last time it made you laugh at all? Let’s not fool ourselves with a simple chuckle here and there… I’m talking about a full on laugh. And I’m sorry, but I just made it through the last episode with nary a chuckle. I’m guessing as Pam and Jim really got together, the show went south. 30 Rock came on and was fresh and funny. That show may have even peaked and I may not look forward to it anymore but I certainly never feel bad seeing it on my DVR like I do the Office. Maybe it’s a good thing Steve Carell’s leaving the show. All good things must come to end. They just shouldn’t end too late. Carell see’s the writing on the wall.
And I’m also thinking about giving up on this year’s most hyped show, The Event. The first episode that “EVERYONE” was talking about but no one really was, was nothing special at all. Completely over hyped. However the hype certainly got me coming back for more. Now I think about deleting it after… and before… every episode. Every scene tries so hard to throw a WTF moment at you that it all winds up anticlimactic and monotonous. They try so hard to fill our Lost void that they can’t possibly do it. Do or do not, there is no try. And they’re trying way, way too hard.
Oh, and I canceled my series recording of No Ordinary Family. I’m out. I got better things to watch than boring people with super powers who are just completely boring.
Update: I just got a pretty good laugh from the intro to the Office Halloween episode.
What I’m watching: Lie To Me
I agree on both counts. The Office has funny scenes here and there, but has not had a complete, solid episode in at least a year. And The Event was such a ridiculous attempt to be the new Lost, that I was bored by the middle of the first episode. I wish the people that make these decisions would understand that what made Lost so great was that it was fresh and new and unknown. The paranormal stuff didn’t jump out right away like the plane disappearing in The Event.
And why did Big Ben suck so bad tonight…stupid pick at the end…
I gave up on The Office last season.
