Goodnight Mafia Wars

In 1997 there was Air Warrior II. In 1998 there was SubSpace. In 2000 and 2001? Diablo II. And now... 2009 will be the era of Mafia Wars.

2010 will not.

Back in April, I began playing Mafia Wars and quickly found myself addicted. Not a day went by for 8 months solid when I didn't find myself doing jobs, collecting loot and fighting random people just because. I lie. 1 day, I forget why... I think I was on vacation but I didn't play. Mafia Wars told me so. It's good at that. Sucking you back in and making sure that the needle hole in your arm is good to go. I got to the point where I only needed to play about once a day for about 20 minutes to keep going but that was never enough. If there was a free minute in the day, I was on Facebook and helping friends complete jobs and fighting strangers. Waiting, just waiting until that 23 hour period was up and I'd get my energy pack. Then the cycle continues.

Approximately 269 days have gone by and today I feel like it's as good a time as any to just stop. There may be some underlying reasons but the main one is I really don't plan on playing this game for the rest of my life so why keep going? For some reason, I find games with absolutely no ending to be the most fun. Games that you can keep plugging along in forever and ever. Maybe it's because I suck at video games and games that never end give you unlimited time and chances to become the best. Regardless, I have blocked Mafia Wars (and Farmville) posts from my Facebook News Feed. I will be deleting all of my Mafia Wars friends from Facebook. I will be back to my lonely old Facebook profile and I will probably have more time than ever for whatever I decide to do. I'm looking forward to playing more guitar. That sure took a hit to Mafia Wars. Perhaps I can even start playing basketball again. I'm not sure if we've played once since last April. Anyway, I'm looking forward to this new chapter in my life. Goodnight Mafia Wars.

Daniel Tosh at the House of Blues

Last night we saw Daniel Tosh at the House of Blues. He was funny as usual but last night's show just wasn't as good as last May's HoB's show. Almost all the material was new, he only reused a few things, but he wasn't the problem. Daniel was trying out new material but the crowd sucked the whole night. Matt Fulchiron's opening act was pretty funny as well but he had the same problem and it only got worse as the night went on. A few of the same morons yelled and hollered the whole show. I don't understand why people have to be such assholes all the time. I'm not exactly sure why the show was like that but I'm leaning towards the fact that the show started too late after the doors opened which gave everyone too much time to get drunk. Selling a few extra $8 beers is exactly what the HoB was hoping for but they ruined the show for a lot of people just to make their extra money. And it was mostly dumb broads causing the problem. Daniel Tosh's joke about guys being gay just so they don't have to deal with annoying women all the time surely rang true last night. Too bad I love hot chicks. Daniel hinted that he wouldn't come back after last night's bullcrap and I don't blame him. Last year's show had a fight in the balcony and this year's show had a bunch of fools all over. The House of Blues should be ashamed. I hate people. A lot.

Rock Band Live

Let me tell you what I'm not going to do. Go to the Harrah's Carnival Court and "Rock the World"? Holy crap, you guessed it. First try too. I'm not even mad, that's amazing. Unfortunately I am not "ready to rock" nor will I ever be. So why may I ask did my Rock Bandmates sign our band up for a Rock Band competition that would be played in an outdoor venue on the Las Vegas strip? Sounds pretty insane to me considering I can't even play guitar in front of a couple of lifelong friends without the shakes. Yeah, that $10,000 grand prize, split 4 ways of course, just isn't enough. It makes me wonder that if $2500 isn't enough to get me up and singing in front of hundreds of people, what price could I actually place on my stage fright? Regardless, it'd probably be a really high number. Just thinking about it gets me shaking again. I'm not sure there's enough beer in the world.

This whole situation does make me miss playing Rock Band every weekend though. Those were good times and it's been months since I last played. Playing real guitar is way more productive though and now that I started playing real guitar with other people, I don't see a real reason to play Rock Band anymore. What a dilemma I've got on my hands. Rock Band Beatles comes out 09-09-09 and I'm not even sure I want that now. Oh well, time to play some guitar. Need to get that Tequila Sunrise solo memorized. These things don't play themselves you know.

HBO dropped the ball.

Oh, by the way, according to Louis C.K.'s website, and I quote, "SO, if you go buy the DVD of Shameless... Then watch Chewed UP on Showtime on October 4th... Then come to see me on the Hilarious Tour... You will see 3 completely different hours of material, generated over the last three years.

Yes I'm Ready For Some Football

So the Timbers we used to go to for Eagles games, what was one of the only Eagles bars in town, was bought out and is no longer an Eagles bar. We found this out a few weeks back when we wanted to go out to watch one of the preseason games that was not on national TV. We called them up and they were no longer an Eagles bar. They had no team affiliation and it sounded like we would no longer be able to go there as they wouldn't even have the football package. It was pretty devastating but we quickly found another Eagles bar that looked good. However it was so far away, and supposedly got packed real early, so we had to get there really, really early. Like 7:30AM early for a 10AM kickoff. Not too thrilled with that. Especially since it's a bar bar and mostly for drinking and watching the game and not for eating breakfast and watching the game. I don't know about you, but I don't like drinking and driving ever let alone at Sunday morning/afternoon. Regardless, we had no choice. We were going to have to go to this bar.

Until now! I just called The Creek, formerly Timbers, back and they said they do indeed have the football package. Even better, the person who answered the phone is the same waitress that we used to get every Sunday and she said she'd try her best to make sure we have the game on with sound. She even remembered how we drink iced teas and Pepsi for 3 hours. I mean even if we don't have the sound on the overhead speakers, we can still turn the TV sound up. And it certainly beats waking up at 6AM on Sunday. I'm extra psyched for the game tomorrow now. Sweet.

Daniel Tosh

Last night we went to see Daniel Tosh. He was funny. Hilarious even. He consistently cracked... me up. He tells you right up front that he's gonna cross some lines and he didn't waste any time. Luckily for me he didn't cross any of my lines and everything he said was great. Problem was, he said so much funny stuff that I can't seem to remember anything other than laughing the whole time. Except for when he cracked at Dane Cook because he's just not funny. And joked about Chris Benoit, New Orleans... oh yeah, the New Orleans bit was great. Man, I'm just gonna end it with that.

Wii

I didn't mention it until now but I finally got my Wii on Sunday. It was in the Sunday Target ad that they were going to have them. My mother left a voicemail at 10AM saying she saw it. Kristin called our Target at like 10:15 and they said they had 8 left. We ran as fast as possible and got one. My mother also left another voicemail at like 10:15 (I didn't have time to call her back) saying she got one as well. Her Target had a few left at 10:30AM. Mine had about 5 left at 11:00AM. Ridiculous. All this time struggling to get one and Target has them to spare 3 hours after they opened. At least now I get to open the controller, nunchuck and Tiger Woods golf that I got 2 months ago for Christmas. And I've played a few hours already. Wii Sports never gets old. It never gets old.

Third Annual Terententen Lord of the Rings Festival

And so it came to pass that on the 16th day of the 2nd month of the year 2008, the Third Annual Terententen Lord of the Rings Festival came to fruition. It was slightly different than the 2nd annual. We started at 9:35AM but still ended at 11:00PM. And crazily, it seemed even faster than last year's. 13 1/2 hours felt like 5 tops. Ridiculous. It's a great day. I already can't wait until next year's. I think I want to try to shorten it down to 13 hours if possible. We'll have to work on that. I think it's possible. Or I can just stop being anal and let it run 13 hours 10 minutes. Or maybe leave it alone. I can't handle 10 minutes. Less worry about timing, more worry about the greatest movies of all time. Better yet, February 2009, take your time. Time's moving way too fast.

Real life guitar hero.

We were just talking about something like Guitar Wizard yesterday. It's Guitar Hero but with a real guitar. Sounds like it could be fun. However it would probably just reassure me that I'm a crappy guitarist and that would just spoil all the fun.

Rock Band

So I realized I hadn't posted about Rock Band yet even though it is one of the greatest games ever. I don't know what to talk about other than we played it for the first time Friday night and it's the most ridiculously fun party game ever. We got our band, the Faceless Apples, and we just rocked for about 4 hours. With Guitar Hero, I'd always be playing and thinking to myself, man I should be doing something constructive with my time; Maybe play some real guitar. However with Rock Band you not only have Guitar Hero but you also get Karaoke AND pretty fun, almost realistic, drumming action as well. Look for the Faceless Apples coming to a city near you real soon. Our world tour is going well.

Oh, and I finally got my real guitar on Thursday night as well. It looks and sounds pretty.

KA

Yesterday I went to see KA at the MGM. They were doing half price tickets for locals so we had to jump on it. It was the only Cirque show that I haven't seen and it was awesome. I'd have to say it was as good as Mystere, much different than Love and better than O and Zumanity. I'm definitely glad this deal came up, and the seats were great although I don't think there was a bad seat in the house. Less acrobatics than Mystere but other great effects that are just too hard to describe without going into a lot of detail that would just make them not sound amazing. Definitely well worth the half price admission. Might just say it was worth the $120+ full price admission. Depending on my mood. Plus I got to get out to the strip and have an awesomely good dinner at Rainforest. Steak, shrimp and ribs. Fantastic.
