It may be blasphemous to say something like this but I think I’m about to give up on the Office. Now I know I got a lot of Office fans as my readers but can anyone tell me the last time the show was funny? When’s the last time it made you really laugh? Whens the last time it made you laugh at all? Let’s not fool ourselves with a simple chuckle here and there… I’m talking about a full on laugh. And I’m sorry, but I just made it through the last episode with nary a chuckle. I’m guessing as Pam and Jim really got together, the show went south. 30 Rock came on and was fresh and funny. That show may have even peaked and I may not look forward to it anymore but I certainly never feel bad seeing it on my DVR like I do the Office. Maybe it’s a good thing Steve Carell’s leaving the show. All good things must come to end. They just shouldn’t end too late. Carell see’s the writing on the wall.
And I’m also thinking about giving up on this year’s most hyped show, The Event. The first episode that “EVERYONE” was talking about but no one really was, was nothing special at all. Completely over hyped. However the hype certainly got me coming back for more. Now I think about deleting it after… and before… every episode. Every scene tries so hard to throw a WTF moment at you that it all winds up anticlimactic and monotonous. They try so hard to fill our Lost void that they can’t possibly do it. Do or do not, there is no try. And they’re trying way, way too hard.
Oh, and I canceled my series recording of No Ordinary Family. I’m out. I got better things to watch than boring people with super powers who are just completely boring.
Update: I just got a pretty good laugh from the intro to the Office Halloween episode.

I found this comment on the 700 Level to be as depressing as it is funny.
“I was playing the new NBA Jam with my friend and jokingly recalled just how bad the Sixers were back in the original NBA Jam days. I think the team consisted of Clarence Weatherspoon, Jeff Malone, Jeff Hornacek and Shawn Bradley.
Present day, the choices are Andre Iguodala, Elton Brand, Jrue Holliday and Thaddeus Young. The more things change, the more they stay the same. *sigh*”
I find I want to play NBA Jam more than I want to watch the Sixers this year. Tough team to get too excited about. They’re a long ways away. How did this team make the playoffs a few years back?

They say when you follow up a 160 point week with a 100 point week, you suck. I agree. What a waste of a good week last week. I thought things were on the up and up and then “POW” right in the kisser. “POW” right in the kisser. 102 points. And it took everything I had in me. Drew Brees throws 4 picks? Joe Flacco doesn’t and still only beats Drew by 2 points? And they both played crappy defenses. Maclin gets shut down either because Kolb fell back to Earth or because he really needs DeSean opposite him. Mendenhall sucked. Benson sucked. Celek really sucked. Man. Everything sucked. I had all 10AM games except for Greg Jennings later that night but by 12AM I was sweating bullets just hoping to break 80 points. It was that bad and that’s all I have to say about that. “POW” right in the kisser.

Hours before kickoff I was tweeting to the “#fantasyfootball gods” asking for a sign that I had some sort of chance of winning this thing. Maybe it was a little premature of me wishing for a hail mary in week 6 but I did it. Well I still may not have a chance at winning this thing but someone sure gave me a sign that all is not lost. Well I guess by definition that is a chance. Almost everyone put up good numbers and the Tortoises won the week, jumping up into 2nd place, with 166.27 points. I’m still far out of 1st but a few more weeks remotely close to this and who knows. The only thing that didn’t work this week was me biting myself in the rear. Sometimes moves work out and sometimes they don’t. This week’s move failed. Greg Jennings has been pretty mediocre so far this year and despite me having a strong feeling he was going to have a bounce back week after speaking out about not getting the ball enough, I still benched him because I picked up this year’s stud free agent receiver Brandon Lloyd and had to see what he could do. Well that move benched over 10 points. But hey, it was better than if I had benched Maclin’s 7/159/2, 24 point day. I had a hunch about him too. A bigger, more successful one. Oh, and Brent Celek… quit dropping passes.

In less than 2 weeks I have killed off all 22 episodes of Stargate SG-1 Season 1 and I enjoyed every minute of it. And this was on top of all the normal fall season premiers mind you. Guy, am I good at watching TV? You know I am. But Stargate’s part of my daily routine now. I watch 30 minutes of it every day during lunch and then finish up the final 14 minutes when I get home from work. During the weekends I kill a bunch more. No more Seinfeld or Two and a Half Men reruns for me. Sorry TBS but you’re out of a viewer. Maybe if you didn’t show the same 20 episodes all the time it wouldn’t have come to this. Now I get to start Season 2 right before traveling home to Philadelphia tomorrow. Ahhh… If I could only stream Netflix on the plane.

Not much to complain about last week. The Tortoises came out strong, having a great week while stomping the competition with 165.21 points. Everyone showed up except for Brent Celek again. Thinking about cutting ties with him. It’s just not working out with Michael Vick and a poor offensive line. He’s forced to block too much. Anyway, it was a good week but it could have been better. There wasn’t much defense in week 3 and every team had a solid week so I couldn’t do much catching up. Guess I’ll just take it one week at a time. Week 4 looks tough though. No bye weeks yet but it still looks tough. It never gets easier.

It doesn’t mean all that much unless they win another World Series but the Phillies are going to end the 2010 MLB season today with the best record in baseball for the first time in history. That’s over 1 1/4 centuries. That’s a lot. With all the stuff they’ve had to overcome this season, from the injuries to the slumps, it’s incredible how it’s come to this. The best record in baseball, another NL East crown, a 21 game winner and probable Cy Young winner and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. It all starts in Philly on Wednesday night with Doc going up against… well we don’t know yet but it should sure be exciting once again. Here’s to H2O and the Phillies sluggers tearing through the playoffs. I want to spend another day at work hungover watching a parade. It was the best day of work ever.
